Jimbo Fisher has been fired as the head football coach at Texas A&M University, according to an announcement made by the school on Sunday.
"After thoroughly evaluating all aspects of Texas A&M football, I advised President Mark Welsh and Chancellor John Sharp that a change in the program's leadership was essential for Aggie football to achieve its maximum potential. They have both accepted my recommendation," stated Ross Bjork, the director of athletics at Texas A&M.
"We extend our gratitude to Coach Fisher for his valuable contribution during his tenure at Texas A&M, and we extend our heartfelt well wishes for his future endeavors," Bjork commented. Fisher's impressive record of 45-25 over six seasons at Texas A&M solidifies his successful coaching career. Following his notable achievements as the head coach at Florida State University, including leading the Seminoles to a national championship, Fisher was appointed to his position at Texas A&M in December 2017.

Texas A&M initially appointed Fisher as the head football coach and disclosed that he had agreed to a 10-year contract worth $75 million, with no utilization of "state-appropriated funds" towards his salary.
In 2021, Fisher's contract was extended by Texas A&M, granting him an annual salary of over $9 million for an additional four years until the 2031 season.
The Aggies currently hold a record of 6-4 overall, with a 4-3 standing in the Southeastern Conference this season. They have two remaining games in the 2023 season: a home game against the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Saturday and an away game against the LSU Tigers on November 25. Bjork has a news conference scheduled for 5 p.m. on Sunday.
