Jesse Lingard's Exciting Al Ettifaq Debut: January Can't Come Soon Enough!

Jesse Lingard nears a move to Al Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, led by Steven Gerrard Impressing in a recent friendly, he scored against Al Khaldiya as discussions for a permanent deal progress

Jesse Lingard is nearing a deal with Saudi Pro League team Al Ettifaq but will have to wait until January to make his debut. This week, he showcased his skills by playing in a friendly and scoring against Al Khaldiya, while discussions regarding a permanent agreement are ongoing.

Al Ettifaq manager, Steven Gerrard, is keen to include Lingard in his team but he must wait until January due to the Saudi rules regarding foreign players. These regulations stipulate that Saudi Pro League clubs can only have a maximum of eight foreign players participating in their matchday squad. Currently, Al Ettifaq already has 10 registered foreign players, which includes former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and former Everton winger Demarai Gray.

In order for Lingard to be officially introduced as an Al Ettifaq player, several foreign players in the team will have to be transferred in January.

In a conversation with We magazine in June, Lingard expressed his thoughts on the possibility of relocating to Saudi Arabia, referring to the country as a desirable destination for professional footballers.

"I'm currently evaluating all my options," he stated. "I have not dismissed any team or club, so I am focused on selecting the perfect fit for me.

"Saudi Arabia is making significant advancements, and within the next few years, it is expected to emerge as one of the top destinations to consider."

I'm unsurprised that the major players are relocating. As I mentioned earlier, they're achieving remarkable accomplishments, and I too would contemplate such a move - I haven't dismissed that possibility either.

Ultimately, the decision needs to be suitable for me. I have to rely on my intuition, but I am still motivated and determined to achieve success.

Lingard became a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest when his one-year contract expired at the end of last season and had been training with former club West Ham.

The 30-year-old scored 35 goals in 232 appearances for Manchester United before leaving for Forest. He also has 32 caps for England.
