Jay Leno shared how he continues to cherish his love story with his wife, Mavis Leno, despite her dementia diagnosis.
In a recent interview with Fox News, the 74-year-old comedian revealed, "We spend a lot of time together. Every evening, I come home to make dinner and we just enjoy each other's company."
Sometimes, though, they stay out late for a good reason. The couple went to the Feminist Majority Foundation’s 16th Annual Global Women’s Rights Awards Gala in Hollywood on Thursday, May 16. They were there to give an award in Mavis’ honor.
When Jay went up on stage to talk to the audience, he got emotional while talking about his wife of 44 years.
Jay Leno, the former host of The Tonight Show, expressed how much fun he has with his wife. He shared that some people find marriage challenging, but he doesn't understand why. Jay enjoys spending time with his wife and taking care of her. They have a great time together, and he admires her independence. Jay feels proud to be a part of his wife's legacy.
In January, Jay filed for a conservatorship for his wife Mavis, who is 77 years old and has been diagnosed with dementia. He wanted to establish a living trust for her in case something happens to him.

Three months later, a judge approved his request during a hearing. In the midst of the court proceedings, Mavis' lawyer mentioned that she supported the conservatorship and stated that she was receiving excellent care from her husband, Mr. Leno.
Since the decision, the couple has been seen enjoying a date night, including attending the premiere of Netflix's Unfrosted on April 30. While walking the red carpet, Mavis shared with Entertainment Tonight that she was feeling "great," while Jay expressed his excitement about watching something fun. "Everything is so controversial," he remarked. "Just being able to enjoy a funny, silly movie - it's great. I believe people will have a wonderful time."
Jay and Mavis are approaching a significant moment in their relationship as they prepare to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary next year. Despite this milestone approaching, the couple has not yet made any concrete plans.
When asked about their upcoming anniversary, Jay admitted, "I haven't really thought about it. It'll probably be similar to the 43rd and the 44th." The comedian attributed the strength of their bond to their faith, family, and the overall connection they share.
“We’ve been married 44 years. It gets easier,” he said. “It doesn’t get harder.”
