Jason Momoa's Bleak Outlook for Aquaman's Future

Jason Momoa expresses uncertainty about Aquaman's future in the new DC universe, despite his enjoyment of the role

Jason Momoa expressed his enjoyment of playing Aquaman but admitted uncertainty about his future in the role. With the announcement of two new CEOs at DC, James Gunn and Peter Safran, fans anticipated inevitable changes.

Gunn and Safran firmly expressed their unique vision for the studio and wasted no time in revealing multiple upcoming projects, such as new Superman and Batman films. Regrettably, this left existing DC properties uncertain, including the future of the Aquaman franchise. Jason Momoa has now voiced his sentiments about his cherished character.

Momoa doesn’t know if Aquaman has a future in the new DC

While doing promotion for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Momoa discussed his character’s future in Gunn and Safran’s new universe with Entertainment Tonight.

Momoa expressed that if the audience loves it, then there’s a possibility, but currently, he feels uncertain. He also shared his love for the role and his desire to play it for a long time, envisioning the potential for the character and the world in the next 10 years. He emphasized that it ultimately depends on whether people love it.

"It would be amazing to be part of their world if there’s a place for me," Momoa expressed. "Warner and DC is my home, and I would love to continue being part of it. That's all I have to say."

As per The Hollywood Reporter, there are currently no plans for an Aquaman-focused project on Gunn or Safran's agendas in the near future.

The success of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom at the box office could significantly impact the current situation, despite the impressive $1.152 billion earnings from its 2018 predecessor. The film is set to be released on December 22. For more DC content, click here, and explore our other superhero hubs below.

Editor's P/S

As a hard fan of Jason Momoa and the Aquaman franchise, I am deeply concerned about the uncertain future of Aquaman in the new DC universe. Momoa's heartfelt expressions of his love for the role and his vision for the character's potential only heighten my disappointment. The lack of concrete plans for an Aquaman-focused project in the immediate future, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, is particularly disheartening.

The success of the first Aquaman movie, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide, demonstrated the character's popularity and potential. Momoa's charismatic portrayal of Aquaman and his undeniable chemistry with the rest of the cast were key factors in the movie's success. It is crucial for DC to recognize and capitalize on this success by continuing to invest in the Aquaman franchise and providing Momoa with the opportunity to further develop the character.
