James McCaffrey, known for his role in Rescue Me, passed away on Sunday, December 17 at the age of 65. His wife, Rochelle Boström, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter, stating that the actor died at their home in Larchmont, New York after battling myeloma cancer.
McCaffrey made his television debut in 1992 as a cast member of Civil Wars. In 1994, he found his breakthrough role as Michael Payton in Viper. McCaffrey continued to achieve success on the small screen with appearances on Swift Justice, New York Undercover, As the World Turns, and Beautiful People.
He is most recognized for his portrayal of Jimmy Keefe on Rescue Me from 2004 to 2011. Additionally, McCaffrey gained recognition for his voice work as the titular character in the Max Payne video game franchise.
Ahead of his death, McCaffrey was working on a short film titled Pigeon, which is in post-production. He was also part of the upcoming Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake video game.

His passing has left a hole in many hearts in and around Hollywood. Entourage alum Kevin Dillon mourned the loss of McCaffrey via Instagram on Sunday.
"James McCaffrey, you will be dearly missed. Rest in peace," wrote Dillon, 58, alongside a throwback photo of him and his late friend.
Sam Lake, the writer of Max Payne, also shared a heartfelt tribute on social media. "I am devastated to hear about the passing of James McCaffrey. We worked together for over 25 years. He was a wonderful man and a dear friend," wrote Lake on Monday, December 18. "He was an integral part of the Remedy family and a truly brilliant actor. He portrayed Max Payne, Thomas Zane the Diver, Zachariah Trench, and finally Alex Casey with unmatched skill. I feel extremely honored to have shared those roles with him."

McCaffrey is survived by his wife, Boström, whom he married in 2000, and their daughter, Tiernan.
