James Gunn's Peacemaker Season 2 Update: What It Reveals About the New DC Universe

James Gunn has shared an exciting update about Peacemaker season 2, revealing its place in the new DC Universe. Find out when to expect the new season and how it fits into the DCU's Chapter One.

Peacemaker Season 2's Place in the DC Universe

James Gunn has revealed Peacemaker season 2's place in his DC Universe. While Peacemaker season 1 was part of the old DCEU, even including cameos from Justice League's Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ezra Miller as The Flash, Peacemaker season 2's story will be tied to the new DC Universe.

On Threads, Gunn was asked if Peacemaker season 2 was part of the DCU's Chapter One, answering, 'Yes.' In January, Gunn announced the first ten projects that would be part of the DC Universe's Chapter One. While Peacemaker cast members were confirmed for other DCU projects, the series was suspiciously absent from the release schedule, even if confirmed to be returning. Now, Gunn has quelled fans' fears of having to wait too long for Peacemaker season 2, as the show will debut in the DCU's Chapter One.

This revelation solidifies Peacemaker season 2's connection to the new DC Universe and sets the stage for an exciting new chapter in the series.

When to Expect Peacemaker Season 2 To Debut

Back in October, Gunn shared an exciting Peacemaker season 2 update. The DCU creative chief revealed that he was writing Peacemaker season 2. Gunn wrote all eight episodes of Peacemaker season 1, which will likely be the case for the return of the series. Gunn also directed multiple episodes of the show's first season, and given his new role at DC, it will be hard for him to find the time to finally start shooting the series.

Because of his busy schedule, Gunn has revealed that Peacemaker season 2 will only start shooting after he wraps work on Superman: Legacy, which he is the writer and director of. The Superman DCU reboot movie is set to be released on July 11, 2025. Based on how directors usually tweak a film up to its release date or very close to it, Peacemaker season 2 is looking at a mid-to-late 2025 filming start.

Based on that possible filming timeframe, Peacemaker season 2 should be released in mid-to-late 2026. That date would make the second season of the DC series arrive four years after season 1 debuted. While that release date is later than fans might have wanted, Gunn has already confirmed that some Peacemaker cast members will appear in Creature Commandos and Waller, which should keep fans tied over until Peacemaker season 2 comes around.
