Filmmaker James Gunn has responded to his inclusion in The Flash movie as part of the DC canon. The highly anticipated solo movie has been in the works for years and will feature nods to past DC content, as well as cameos from both characters and filmmakers. In one of the trailers, a reference to Gunn's Scooby Doo film can be seen in the childhood bedroom of the young Barry Allen, which is set in the 2000s.
Is The Flash Actually Going To Be Part Of James Gunn's DC Universe?
In a subtle nod to James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy and current head of DC Studios, The Flash movie includes posters of other Warner Bros. films. Despite not making any direct references to Gunn, it's still entertaining for fans to see his presence acknowledged in the DCEU.
While The Flash movie is set to partially reset the DCEU and transition to James Gunn's new vision, it remains uncertain if the Scarlet Speedster will play a role in his upcoming franchise. Despite several Justice League characters having projects in the works under DC Studios, the fastest man alive is currently absent from Gunn's Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters." It's possible that the decision to include this particular version of the speedster in the DC Universe may not be made until after The Flash is released.
The fate of Ezra Miller's return as The Flash remains uncertain, as DC Studios has yet to confirm if a sequel will mark his final portrayal of the character. There have been talks of a possible reboot for the Justice League heroes, including The Flash, to breathe new life into the DC Universe. However, it's also possible that Miller may continue to don the iconic red suit as Barry Allen. Ultimately, the decision may be influenced by the success of The Flash at the box office and with audiences, and DC Studios may opt to take a similar approach to The Batman and Joker with an Elseworlds-franchise. Only time will tell what the future holds for The Flash.
