According to Carr's official website, it is confirmed that Jack is 40 years old in the first Virgin River book, while Mel is 32. The timeline of the book aligns with the events of Season 1, making it logical that the characters are of these ages at the beginning of the Netflix series.
As per the character description, Jack is a "40-year-old retired, decorated Marine who fought in four combat zones and now owns Jack’s Bar, the center of social life in Virgin River. There he meets Mel Monroe."

Even though we're in Season 5, not much time has passed since the beginning of the series - it's only been about six months from Mel's arrival in Virgin River to the most recent episode. This explains why it seemed like Charmaine had been pregnant forever.
