WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Virgin River season 5.
Summary
The premiere of Virgin River season 5 leaves viewers in shock as a major character makes their unexpected exit, creating anticipation for what lies ahead in the upcoming episodes. Paige's tumultuous journey with her abusive ex-husband reaches its resolution as Vince gets apprehended, leading her to once again depart from the town of Virgin River.
It is uncertain whether Paige's departure is permanent as she has left and returned before, and her book storyline suggests a potential future comeback.
Netflix's Virgin River is renowned for its shocking twists and turns, and the season 5 premiere's character exit has already set high expectations. Based on Robyn Carr's romance novels of the same name, Virgin River follows the journey of nurse practitioner Mel, who relocates to the titular town for a fresh start after the loss of her husband. Upon her arrival, Mel swiftly gets to know the other members of the Virgin River community, and many of them, including Paige played by Lexa Doig, harbor their own secrets.
Throughout the series Virgin River, Paige has been fleeing from her abusive ex-husband Wes (who was killed early on) and his vengeful twin, Vince, who is determined to seek revenge on Paige. Finally, in season 5 of Virgin River, this storyline reaches a satisfying resolution as Vince is apprehended and arrested in the first episode. With Vince now behind bars, it appears that Paige is back in Virgin River permanently. However, she surprises everyone by announcing her departure once again. Although Paige and Christopher leave at the end of episode 1 in season 5, it remains uncertain whether they will be leaving Virgin River for good.
Lexa Doig's Paige Leaves Virgin River In Season 5's Premiere
Paige's return in the first episode of Virgin River season 5 initially gave the impression that she was back for good following the altercation between her and Preacher with Vince at the end of season 4. However, this hope proves to be short-lived. Over dinner with Preacher, Paige reveals her original intention of moving to Virgin River was to start afresh in a place where Wes had never set foot. Unfortunately, after the traumatic events involving Wes and Vince, Paige finds herself without a sanctuary untainted by memories of Wes. She openly acknowledges her inability to move past this fact, leading to her decision to depa+rt from Virgin River alongside Christopher.
Is Lexa Doig Done With Virgin River For Good?
It's uncertain if Paige's departure in the season 5 premiere episode means she is permanently gone from the Netflix series Virgin River. While her goodbye with Preacher suggests she may be leaving the town forever, it's important to consider that Paige has left and returned multiple times in the past. This makes it difficult to determine if this is truly her final departure from the series.
In addition to her history of leaving and returning, Paige's storyline in the Virgin River book series could indicate that she may come back in the future. In the second book, she and Preacher have a relationship, and if the show follows this storyline, Paige would have to return to Virgin River. However, the Netflix series has made significant changes to the original books, so her book storyline doesn't necessarily guarantee her return.
Ultimately, we won't know if Paige will come back to Virgin River until the release of season 5 part 2 in November.
