Disney's newest animated film, "Wish," commemorating Disney's 100th anniversary, has arrived. But is it available for streaming on Disney Plus? Here's what you need to know.

In the last few years, Disney and Pixar have had mixed success with their animated releases. Films like Turning Red, Strange World, and Elemental didn't perform as well as anticipated.

It's now time for the centennial celebration and we're eager to see how Wish will perform. The movie's synopsis tells the story of Asha, who makes a powerful wish that summons a cosmic force known as Star. With Star's assistance, Asha must rescue her kingdom from King Magnifico and demonstrate that when the will of a brave human connects with the magic of the stars, miraculous things can occur. As Asha prepares to make her big debut, here's everything you need to know about how to watch Wish and whether it's available for streaming on Disney Plus.

How to watch Disney’s Wish – is it streaming?

The North American theatrical release of Wish is set to begin on November 22, 2023. At this time, there are no confirmed dates for the movie to become available for streaming, but it is expected to eventually be added to Disney Plus.

In addition to the movie’s North American theatrical run, Disney’s Wish will be in cinemas worldwide from November 24.

Deadline's report indicates that Disney's latest animated film, Wish, is targeting a box office debut of at least $75 million, coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday. The international release will follow a staggered approach, with countries like the UK, Spain, and Mexico receiving the film two days after its initial release. It is expected to generate approximately $25 million from overseas markets during its opening weekend.

When it comes to streaming, Disney's plans for its upcoming release, Wish, are somewhat unclear. In the past, fans were able to anticipate when their beloved movies would become available on the platform, thanks to Disney's previous marketing approach. Typically, newly released films would be added to Disney Plus approximately 45 days after their theatrical debut.

Disney Plus has had a different year, with the 45-day rule no longer applying to films like Wish. As of now, it is expected that Wish will be available for streaming on Disney Plus around December 22, 2023.

As per reports from Digital Spy, Disney’s Wish is anticipated to have an extended theatrical run, which suggests that fans may need to wait longer for a streaming release. We will update this space once a streaming release date or timeframe is announced.

Wish premieres in theaters on November 22 and globally on November 24. Be sure to explore our other TV & Movies hubs below.

Editor's P/S

1. As a fan of Disney and Pixar animated films, I'm excited about the release of "Wish." The movie's synopsis sounds intriguing, and I'm eager to see how the story of Asha and Star unfolds. The film's visuals look stunning, and I'm sure the music will be beautiful. I'm also curious to see how the movie will tie into Disney's 100th anniversary celebration.

2. I'm a little disappointed that "Wish" won't be available for streaming on Disney Plus right away. I'm used to being able to watch new Disney movies on the platform shortly after their theatrical release, so it's a bit of a bummer that I'll have to wait longer to see "Wish." However, I understand that Disney is likely trying to maximize the movie's box office potential before making it available for streaming. I'm still planning to see "Wish" in theaters, and I'm sure it will be worth the wait to see it on Disney Plus.
