Is What We Do in the Shadows Cancelled?

Discover the fate of the hilarious vampire comedy, What We Do in the Shadows With Season 5 already aired, fans are left wondering if Season 6 will mark the end of this beloved show Find out what's in store for the characters in the upcoming season

Has the popular vampire comedy show What We Do in the Shadows been canceled? The hit series, based on the 2014 mockumentary movie created by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, has garnered a devoted fanbase.

Did the TV series spin-off of the film, which aired on FX in 2019 and starred Matt Berry, Natasha Demetriou, Kayvan Novak, and Mark Proksch as a group of vampires living together on Staten Island, along with their familiar played by Harvey Guillen, get cancelled after its fifth season aired this past summer?

Has What We Do in the Shadows been canceled?

Vulture reports that filming for Season 6 of What We Do in the Shadows will begin in January. However, sources at FX have confirmed that this will be the last season of the popular show.

It is uncertain whether FX has ended the show or if the creators feel they have reached the maximum potential for the characters. However, due to the show's lasting popularity, the latter seems more probable.

The series has received numerous Emmy nominations over the years. In addition, What We Do in the Shadows has seen a multitude of high-profile cameos, including appearances by Tilda Swinton, Wesley Snipes, Mark Hamill, Paul Reubens, Dave Bautista, Danny Trejo, David Cross, Fred Armisen, and Sofia Coppola.

What will happen in Season 6 of WWDITS?

Even the original movie had a crossover, with Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement reprising their roles in the first season. This suggests that if Season 6 is the last time we see Laszlo, Nadja, Nandor, Colin, and Guillermo on the small screen, they could potentially return in a team-up What We Do in the Shadows movie in the future.

Guillermo was finally turned into a vampire (before being turned back) at the end of Season 5. When asked about how this will affect his relationship with Nandor in the future, producer Yana Gorskaya told TV Insider, "Well, you'll find out when we get to Season 6. Paul Simms and the writers are so good at taking it where you maybe don't expect it to go. With these will-they-or-won't-they type relationships, oftentimes you don't actually want the thing you think you want. It may be more interesting to take it in other directions, but I'm not going to spoil any of that because that's where we're going."

Season 6 does not have an air date yet, but to find out how Season 5 raised the stakes on the show forever, head here.

As a devoted fan of the hilarious vampire comedy "What We Do in the Shadows," I was thrilled to learn that Season 6 is currently in production. The show's unique blend of humor, horror, and heart has captivated audiences since its debut in 2019, and I can't wait to see what the final season has in store for our beloved Staten Island vampires. The news that Season 6 will be the last is bittersweet, but I trust that the creators, Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, will give the show the send-off it deserves.

The show's success can be attributed to its brilliant writing, memorable characters, and talented cast. Matt Berry, Natasha Demetriou, Kayvan Novak, and Mark Proksch bring the vampires Laszlo, Nadja, Nandor, and Colin Robinson to life with their impeccable comedic timing and chemistry. Harvey Guillen's portrayal of Guillermo, the vampires' familiar, adds a heartwarming and relatable element to the show. The series has also been elevated by its impressive roster of guest stars, including Tilda Swinton, Wesley Snipes, and Mark Hamill, who have all brought their unique brand of humor to the show.
