Serving as a prequel to the popular sitcom, Young Sheldon offers insight into the upbringing of the clever young boy.
Young Sheldon fans had an eventful week, with the first five seasons now available on Netflix and the announcement that the series will conclude after Season 7. With all the excitement, the fate of Veronica has once again been a topic of discussion. Here's what you need to know, but be warned, spoilers for Young Sheldon Season 6 are ahead!
Did Veronica die in Young Sheldon?
No, Veronica hasn’t died in Young Sheldon. However, she did depart the show, leaving fans speculating over whether she might return down the line.
Veronica Duncan, played by Isabel May, is a high school student in the prequel sitcom who captures the attention of George “Georgie” Cooper Jr., portrayed by Montana Jordan as Sheldon’s older brother.
Introduced in Season 2 Episode 6, Veronica starts off as a rebellious teenager who drinks, smokes, and makes bad decisions, negatively influencing Georgie. But as the seasons progress, she experiences a major transformation, becoming a newly converted Christian and bringing a more positive energy to the show.
Veronica's journey has a significant impact on Georgie as well. Despite their mutual feelings, their relationship falters and Georgie begins dating Jana Boggs (Ava Allan). In Season 5, he enters into a relationship with Mandy McAllister (Emily Osment), who becomes pregnant with their first child.
May made guest appearances as Veronica in several episodes until her final appearance in Season 3 Episode 17. Many speculate that she left Young Sheldon after landing the role of Elsa Dutton in the Yellowstone prequel series 1883. As her character wasn't killed off, fans have theorized that she may return to the story and reconnect with Georgie, a possible reference to The Big Bang Theory where it's mentioned that he got married at 19.
Georgie turning 18 in Season 6 opens up the possibility. However, his proposal to Mandy suggests that he will likely stick with the mother of his child, unless the writers throw a surprise twist. You can now stream Young Sheldon Seasons 1-5 on Netflix and find more coverage below.
Editor's P/S
As a Gen Z fan, I have mixed feelings about Veronica's departure from Young Sheldon. On one hand, I understand that Isabel May had to leave the show to pursue other opportunities, and I'm excited to see her in the Yellowstone prequel series 1883. On the other hand, I'm disappointed that Veronica's storyline was cut short and that we didn't get to see more of her relationship with Georgie.
I think Veronica's character had a lot of potential, and I would have liked to see her continue to grow and develop. I also think her relationship with Georgie was interesting and complex, and I would have liked to see how it played out in the long run. However, I'm still grateful for the time we had with Veronica on Young Sheldon, and I wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
