Has the live-action remake of Snow White been canceled amidst intense controversy surrounding Rachel Zegler and her past remarks?

The online circulation of a 2022 interview featuring Zegler, where she criticized the Disney classic by stating, "It’s no longer 1937, guys," has caused a stir. Zegler described Prince Charming as a "stalker," suggested his scenes may be removed from the reboot, and expressed a desire to shift the narrative's focus towards empowerment rather than true love.

These comments have ignited a frenzy on social media, with other old videos of Zegler resurfacing, past controversies being brought up, and discussions of boycotting the star's upcoming film. So, what does all of this mean for the troubled project? Disney appears to be on the verge of postponing its release, but has the Snow White remake been canceled altogether?

Has Rachel Zegler’s Snow White remake been canceled?

Contrary to any speculations, Disney has not made any official statement regarding the discontinuation of the highly anticipated live-action remake of Snow White, featuring Rachel Zegler. However, various factors have led to widespread belief in the potential cancellation of the project.

Starting with Mouse Trap News, a satirical Disney news website, they recently published an article titled 'Official Confirmation: Disney Puts an End to Live-Action Snow White Film'. Here lies the issue: certain individuals are unable to grasp that this online publication is meant solely for satirical purposes.

The article asserts, "What is the reason behind Disney's decision to halt production of the highly anticipated live-action Snow White film? It is undeniably due to the ongoing controversy surrounding it. Currently, Disney faces two significant challenges." The piece goes on to mention that Disney is facing financial difficulties, with their recent cinema releases failing to achieve success.

Additionally, the decline in popularity can be attributed to subpar storylines, mediocre musical performances, and a dearth of original narratives. Furthermore, Disney's emphasis on progressivism at the expense of producing high-quality films has not resonated well with their loyal customer base.

Despite being a fictitious report, numerous readers were deceived by it, leading to the story being shared on multiple websites. This, combined with the existing backlash against Zegler, has triggered a frenzy of rumors.

On Twitter/X, one user commented, "There's a rumor going around that #Disney has cancelled the live-action version of #SnowWhite. If this is true, it's evidence of a higher power." Another individual jokingly remarked, "I heard they scrapped Snow White," followed by several laughing emojis.

A third person eagerly inquired, "Is it true that Snow White has been cancelled?" Meanwhile, a fourth individual joined in, stating, "Finally, Snow White is no more! Farewell, Rachel Zelger."

Some individuals recognized the falsity of the news story, but it is apparent that many share a strong sentiment. As one person commented, "It's truly unfortunate that the report regarding the cancellation of the Snow White reboot was not accurate. I am confident that numerous individuals wish it were true."

All that being said, it does look like Disney may delay the release of Snow White – but it has nothing to do with Zegler.

According to industry source Matt Belloni, the live-action remake of Snow White, originally scheduled for release on March 22, 2024, will likely be delayed. The movie is still unfinished, requiring reshoots, and the ongoing actors' and writers' strikes in Hollywood are also contributing to the potential delay.
