Is there a Season 2 in store for the popular young adult series Percy Jackson & the Olympians, which is currently gaining momentum on Disney+? The series has been highly anticipated on the streaming platform, with the beloved books capturing the hearts of fans for many years. Despite a disappointing movie adaptation in 2010, eager fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the series onscreen.
Following a 12-year-old modern demigod named Percy Jackson as he navigates through Greek myths and monsters, Season 1 of the story centers around Percy coming to grips with his newfound divine abilities. Accused of stealing Zeus's master lightning bolt, Percy must enlist the help of his friends to restore peace to Olympus. Given the excitement of Season 1, the question remains - is there potential for a second season?
Has Season 2 of Percy Jackson & the Olympians been confirmed?
The confirmation of Season 2 of Percy Jackson & the Olympians is pending, but author Rick Riordan has suggested a potential renewal.
Riordan confirmed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he has already begun working on Season 2, despite there being no official renewal confirmation.
“We are preparing for the possibility of receiving the green light. Nothing is official yet, but we’re receiving amazing feedback tonight and everywhere else. If I were the Oracle, I would say that the signs are positive. We have started working on the episodes and discussing the series format, focusing on the first few episodes. We can only continue doing this much until we receive the go-ahead. So, the best way to ensure the show moves forward is to encourage friends to watch on Disney+.”
What would happen with Percy Jackson Season 2?
The enthusiasm from fans has been remarkable, especially with the series already achieving an impressive 96% Critics Score on Rotten Tomatoes. It's safe to say that a confirmed second season would be widely welcomed.
The first season covers the first book of the Percy Jackson series, Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief, so it is likely that the second season will feature the second book, Sea of Monsters. If the show is renewed, we can expect to see the return of the current cast, including Walker Scobell as Percy, Leah Jeffries as Annabeth, and Aryan Simhadri as Grover.
Season 1 premiered on December 9 and is currently ongoing. With the child stars growing up fast, production for future seasons should be quick. We may have to wait for a second season to appear, but hopefully it won't be longer than a year or so. Explore more Percy Jackson content here and other Movies & TV coverage here.
