Curious about what's in store for Season 2 of Prime Video’s Invincible? Following the shocking cliffhanger in Episode 4, the acclaimed Image Comics series takes viewers on a thrilling ride. In the midst of it all, Invincible's father, Omni-Man, is captured and Invincible himself finds himself entangled in a daunting new connection with the Viltrum empire.
The cliffhanger comes as a big shock, but fans familiar with the comics may not be as affected. Invincible has stayed true to its comic counterpart, with a few minor changes. The show is moving fast and staying fairly similar to the original stories.
While waiting for the return of Invincible, here’s what happens in the comics after Season 2’s shocking cliffhanger.
Warning, potential spoilers for Invincible Season 2 Episode 4 and beyond follow.
Mark’s brother goes to Earth
Staying behind to clean up after the fight, Mark is urged to bring his half-brother back to Earth. The people of Thrasca have short lifespans, and while his brother’s aging is already slowing down, his mother is reaching the end of her life.
Image ComicsNolan’s other son becomes Mark’s responsibility when he learns he will outlive his entire race.
After Mark brings him back to Earth, he has aged to about two years old. Debbie agrees to care for him, and Cecil arranges a legal adoption and tutoring. She names him Oliver, after her father. Oliver inherits his father's traits as a strong fighter, highly intelligent, and somewhat arrogant. He later becomes involved in the superhero world, taking on the somewhat oblivious persona of Kid Omni-Man.
Mark’s battle with Angstrom Levy
Mark’s first threat after returning to Earth: Angstrom Levy. Deformed and blaming Invincible, he’s traveled through time and space to find a way to get revenge.
Mark mistakenly kills Angstrom Levy, believing he was able to take his punches.
Stranded and facing the threat of dying alone, Mark is eventually saved by a version of the Guardians from 15 years in the future. They find a way to send him back to his time, with the older Eve telling Mark she’s always loved him and pleading that he give her past self some sense of closure so she can move on.
Mark’s fallout on Earth
After six weeks on Thraxa, Mark's personal life is in disarray. His relationship with Amber is becoming increasingly strained as she begins to show regret over dating a superhero. Ultimately, Mark and Amber decide to break up. Mark feels guilty about a kiss shared with Eve and is spurred to end things when he sees Amber with another man. He confesses that he can't be there for her, and they both acknowledge the flaws in their relationship, parting ways amicably.
Eve's romantic involvement with Mark comes to an abrupt end when she discovers the truth about her future self. Upon realizing this, she tries to open up to Mark about her emotions and pursue a relationship with him. However, she hesitates after discovering that he didn't have feelings for her prior to meeting her future self, leading her to doubt his affection for her.
Shapesmith & the Sequid invasion
The revelation of Shapesmith’s betrayal occurs as Rus Livingston assumes the role of leading a parasitic assault on Earth. Admitting his Martian origins, he teams up with the Guardians, Invincible, and Atom Eve for a space mission to thwart the Sequids. Despite a challenging battle, they narrowly succeed in averting disaster.
As the Guardians face the Sequid invasion, a separate battle unfolds on Earth with the Lizard League. Meanwhile, the remaining Guardians – Dupli-Kate, Rex Splode, and Shrinking Ray – are forced to confront the League alone in a desperate effort to save the world. Despite their valiant efforts, only Rex survives the encounter, albeit with serious injuries.
All roads lead to Viltrumite War
Shapesmith continues to serve on the Guardians, while Rex comes back with a prosthetic hand. Rus Livingston appears to have returned to Earth unharmed, but it is later discovered that he is still under the influence of a Sequid parasite. The burial of Dupli-Kate leaves the Immortal heartbroken, but it is eventually revealed that one of her duplicates has managed to survive in hiding.
Invincible Season 2 sets the stage for the Viltrumite War arc from the comics, with the initial foreshadowing occurring when Allen's survival is revealed and Thaedus is unveiled as a potential Viltrumite rebel (although this may not be the case in the show). Despite Invincible's reluctance to go to space to assist Allen in preparing for war, he still shares Nolan's books with him.
It turns out that these books are actually novels written by Nolan before he became a travel writer. These seemingly failed sci-fi novels are actually detailed accounts of Nolan's experiences as a Viltrumite agent, chronicling the battles he fought and shedding light on his fellow Viltrumite warriors. In a surprising twist, the books contain crucial information on how to defeat the Viltrumites.

Thaedus, Nolan, and Allen are working in secret to give Earth a fighting chance against the Viltrumites.
Meanwhile, Nolan is in a Viltrumite prison, where he comes to the realization that he misses – and still loves – Debbie. Ultimately, Allen frees Nolan, forming an unexpected and formidable team. Together, they fight across the galaxy to ensure that Earth is ready to defend itself from invasion.
The Viltrumite War involves Mark, Nolan, and Oliver teaming up with other heroes to fight off a long-awaited invasion. However, Prime Video fans will have to wait a while to see it, as the mid-season cliffhanger ends at Invincible #30 and the war begins in issue #70. Editor's P/S
As a Gen Z fan, I am thrilled about the upcoming second season of Invincible. The cliffhanger in Episode 4 left me on the edge of my seat, and I can't wait to see what happens next. I'm particularly interested in seeing how Mark's relationship with his brother develops, as well as how he deals with the fallout from the battle with Angstrom Levy. I'm also curious to see how the show will handle the Viltrumite War, which is one of the most important storylines in the comics.
Overall, I'm very excited for the future of Invincible. The show has been a great adaptation of the comics so far, and I'm confident that the second season will be even better. I can't wait to see what the future holds for Mark and the rest of the characters.
