The episode titled Fluctuations of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 premiered on October 26, 2023. After Yuji's intense battle against Choso in the previous episode, this one focuses on two different fights: Mei Mei and Ui Ui against the Smallpox Deity, and Nanami, Maki, Naobito, and Megumi against Dogan.
Both battles present challenging situations for the grade 1 sorcerers involved. The Shibuya Incident arc in Jujutsu Kaisen continues to build up towards its climactic and bloody conclusion, with this episode serving as a follow-up to episode 36. It explores the ongoing struggles of Mei Mei and Ui Ui against the Smallpox Deity and also updates on Team Zenin's whereabouts.

The first fight in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 14 unfolds before the opening credits. Mei Mei and Ui Ui engage in a five-minute battle against the deadly Smallpox Deity. During the fight, the mechanics of the Smallpox Deity's Domain Expansion and its guaranteed hit effect are explained.
Essentially, the individual with the highest cursed energy becomes trapped in a coffin, sealed with a boulder, and then succumbs to smallpox within three seconds. Mei Mei escapes the coffin, employing one of her crows as a distraction to test her theory. She then utilizes Ui Ui as another decoy, showcasing her Bird Strike technique.
Team Zenin vs. Dagon
The core concept of the Bird Strike technique showcased in episode 14 of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 involves empowering a crow with cursed energy, surpassing its normal limits, and subsequently launching it in a kamikaze attack. The resulting impact is of such immense strength that only Gojo has managed to survive it. This act effectively eradicates the curse, allowing Mei Mei and Ui Ui to confront Psuedo-Geto without encountering any obstacles.
In Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, episode 14, viewers are treated to an intriguing battle between Team Zenin and the formidable curse named Dagon. This particular curse, a member of the Disaster Curse villain faction, has been a part of the series from the beginning but had not yet had the opportunity to display its true power. However, this episode provides that chance, while also giving attention to Naobito Zenin.
Naobito possesses the second fastest jujutsu sorcerer technique, surpassed only by Gojo. His unique ability transforms the world into an animated cel, capturing every movement and action in meticulous frames. Dagon falls victim to this technique, forcing him to regurgitate every bone from the countless humans he has consumed.
In response, Dagon unleashes his Domain Expansion: Horizon of the Captivating Skandha. Longtime fans will recognize this as the tropical island where the villains schemed during the first season. Dagon proves to be a formidable opponent, manipulating water and possessing seemingly endless HP, as noted by Nanami.
The Fushiguro Factor

The battle within Dagon's realm in episode 14 of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 is extremely intense. Dagon's devastating guaranteed hit technique separates the team and bombards them relentlessly. This technique, involving fast-moving shikigami fishes and sea serpents, poses a major challenge for Maki, Nanami, and Naobito.
Despite the difficulties, Nanami and Maki manage to fend off some of the attacks. Nanami successfully eliminates all the creatures targeting him for a whole minute. Unfortunately, Naobito is left severely wounded, losing his left arm, which greatly impairs him later on. Just when things seem hopeless, Megumi arrives within the domain and deploys his own domain, effectively nullifying Dagon's.
A plan was then devised: with the exception of Gojo, only one Domain Expansion can be performed per day. Megumi's strategy was to evacuate everyone from Dagon's Domain and then rally together to confront him once they were outside. The fourteenth episode of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 concludes with an unexpected twist, as Toji Fushiguro enters the Domain with a disturbing grin on his face.
Despite the presence of two fights, Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 14 progresses quickly. Studio MAPPA's animation remains consistently impressive, particularly in its depiction of Naobito Zenin's inherited technique, which is explained and executed abruptly.
The next episode preview reveals that it will be called "Fluctuations part 2," hinting at an intense confrontation between a father and son that manga readers are already aware of. However, there are additional elements in store for the Shibuya Incident that will significantly alter the course of events. Toji stands as one of these factors, while the whereabouts of Jogo also raise intriguing questions. Fans should stay tuned for the upcoming week to witness the developments in the Shibuya Incident Arc.
