COVID-19 caused delays in the production of Invincible season 2, requiring the team to rebuild and restart the "factory" of the show.
Fans anxiously anticipated the upcoming season of Invincible following a gripping cliffhanger, and can anticipate the introduction of fresh characters and thrilling advancements.
With the conclusion of the COVID-19 pandemic, the duration between seasons is expected to be reduced, and fans can have confidence in the competence of the show's creators.
Fans have been curious about the delay in releasing Invincible season 2. Robert Kirkman, the graphic novelist and showrunner, shed light on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the show's production. He revealed the challenges faced in resuming production after the shutdowns, likening it to restarting a factory. Despite the efforts, it took considerable time for everything to reach full capacity again, much like a factory returning to normal operations.
During an interview with Polygon, Kirkman revealed how the production of Invincible was significantly disrupted by the ongoing effects of COVID-19. "The impact of COVID was far-reaching, causing an unexpectedly prolonged hiatus in the production process. Rebuilding the team took considerable time," Kirkman stated. "The resulting delays were solely attributed to the constraints imposed by the pandemic. Creating an animated series mirrors the intricate workings of a well-oiled factory, but due to COVID, we were forced to temporarily halt its operations. Therefore, in order to commence with seasons 2 and 3, it necessitated the arduous task of rebuilding the factory from scratch and restoring its functionality, which proved to be a time-consuming endeavor." Notably, Invincible's first season commenced airing just as the COVID-19 vaccine became available to the general public, symbolically representing the reopening of this aforementioned metaphorical factory.
It is not the fault of the creators that everything had to shut down due to the rapid spread of COVID-19. It is also not their fault that fans were eagerly anticipating the next events after the traumatic ending of Invincible season 1. The show provided a glimpse of what was to come in season 2, hinting at even more intense moments. The fans were captivated by the freshness of Invincible and just wanted more.
With COVID-19 now in the past, fans can expect a shorter hiatus between seasons 2 and 3. The wait is gradually coming to an end, and soon fans will finally discover the fate of their beloved characters, such as Omni-Man and his aftermath following his attack on Mark and humanity.
Furthermore, fans can look forward to the introduction of fresh characters within this universe, which will undeniably bring exciting new elements to Invincible, building on an already vast array of material. Skeptics may believe that extensive worldbuilding can only sustain interest for a limited time, but considering the impressive execution demonstrated in the first season, fans can have faith in the competence of the show's creators. Mark your calendars, as Invincible season 2 is set to debut on Amazon Prime Video on November 3, 2023.
