In the early days of World of Warcraft, players were required to interact with class trainer NPCs in order to learn new abilities, enhance existing ones, change talent and glyph choices, and unlock dual specializations. However, as the game progressed, much of this functionality was phased out. Mists of Pandaria introduced automatic ability learning, and Legion largely eliminated the need for these NPCs altogether. At present, class trainers in World of Warcraft primarily serve as access points for the Proving Ground and as facilitators of certain ability adjustments.

A dedicated World of Warcraft fan named Portergauge recently proposed an intriguing concept that would reinvigorate the role of class trainers. His suggestion involves transforming these NPCs into individual-class Barbershops, where players could customize the visual effects of specific spells, abilities, summons, and other cosmetic elements within their toolkit. Though the implementation of this idea would require significant effort, it holds the potential to provide players with a substantial amount of control over the customization of their World of Warcraft characters.

Class skins in World of Warcraft are not a new concept. Players have previously come up with ideas for fan-concept skins, such as shadow or moonlight magic for Forsaken and Night Elf Paladins. There is already a precedent in World of Warcraft for customization with glyphs that change the appearance of certain skills, as well as the Warlock's green fire quest unlock.

In addition, World of Warcraft recently introduced the ability for Warlocks to customize their demons through the Barbershop, similar to how Druids can change their shapeshifting forms. Portergauge's idea expands on this concept and extends it to other classes, allowing all players to personalize the appearance of their chosen class.

While many players may be enthusiastic about this idea, its execution would require significant effort, making it unlikely to happen in the near future, if at all. However, World of Warcraft has officially announced its intention to allow every race to play every class in the coming updates. In the past, whenever a class was made available to different races, the game introduced new class trainer NPCs to reflect this change. Although class trainers may not currently serve a significant purpose, World of Warcraft has not disregarded their existence, leaving room for potential future utilization of these NPCs.
