Nathan Kress expressed his gratitude to iCarly viewers after the show's unexpected and controversial cancellation. Writing via X on Wednesday, October 4, the 30-year-old actor conveyed his appreciation for the kindness, love, and unwavering support received over the past three seasons. He expressed his immense gratitude for the chance to bring this story to the audience and extended a special thanks to the incredible crew, writers, and castmates who made the experience truly remarkable. Kress concluded by expressing his pride in what they had collectively achieved.

The actor who portrayed Freddie Benson expressed his optimism for the future of the show, emphasizing that the character holds a special place in his heart. Kress acknowledged the disappointment over the show's conclusion, stating that there were still untold stories to share and a desire to provide the audience with a satisfying ending. It was clear that no one wanted the show to end with unresolved plotlines, and Kress expressed a hope that someday the audience will discover how the story ultimately unfolds.

iCarly, which aired on Nickelodeon from 2007 to 2012, played a significant role in launching the careers of Kress, Miranda Cosgrove, Jennette McCurdy, and Jerry Trainor. The plot revolved around Carly, a teenager (played by Cosgrove) who created and hosted her own web show with the assistance of her closest friends.

The immense popularity of the show led to the creation of two spinoffs. The first spinoff, which ran from 2013 to 2014, featured McCurdy's character, Sam, in a crossover project alongside Cat from Victorious, portrayed by Ariana Grande. The second spinoff centered around Noah Munck's character, Gibby, in a sitcom named after his character. The show followed Gibby as he mentored middle school students while working at a recreation center. Although a pilot was filmed, it was never aired and the series was not picked up.

iCarly made its return on Paramount+ in 2021, breathing new life into the beloved series. Taking place almost ten years after the original show, the revamped version delves into Carly's journey as she revives her web show, accompanied by her roommate Harper (portrayed by Laci Mosley) and loyal friend Freddie.

Fans of the original show were taken aback by the way the new iCarly ultimately embraced Freddie and Carly's romantic relationship. After a prolonged build-up spanning two seasons, Freddie and Carly began dating in the latest episodes and came close to tying the knot in the series finale. "Love is patient. It was always destined to be Carly and Freddie," Kress expressed in a June post following the fictional couple's union.

Three months after the conclusion of season 3, Paramount+ made the decision to cancel iCarly.

“iCarly will not be renewed for a fourth season on Paramount+. The show had an impressive three-season run and fulfilled fans' wishes by bringing Carly and Freddie together,” said a spokesperson for the streaming service on Wednesday, October 4. "We express gratitude to the entire cast, writers, directors, producers, and crew for their commitment, inventiveness, and talent."

The series concluded with a surprising twist when Carly's mother, who had never been seen before, made an unexpected appearance off-camera. Paramount+'s official X account even conducted a poll to ask fans which actress they would like to see in the coveted role.
