Julia Roberts has expressed her interest in creating a sequel to the beloved romantic comedy My Best Friend’s Wedding. As a prominent figure in the genre, her influence is still widely felt.
Throughout her extensive career, Roberts has appeared in several timeless films, such as Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, and Runaway Bride.
While she hasn't been in many romantic comedies recently, Roberts remains open to the idea. She recently expressed her interest in starring in a sequel to one of her most iconic films in the genre.

Roberts is ready and willing to do My Best Friend’s Wedding
During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Roberts was asked by the talk show host to name a film from her career that she believes deserves a sequel. Roberts expressed that she thinks "My Best Friend's Wedding" could be a good candidate for a sequel due to the large number of characters in the film and the potential to explore the marriage of Kimmy and Michael.
The film My Best Friend's Wedding debuted in 1997 and centered around Julianne Potter (played by Roberts), who attempts and ultimately fails to sabotage her best friend Michael O'Neal's (played by Dermot Mulroney) wedding to his fiancée Kimberly Wallace (played by Cameron Diaz).
Roberts also shared that she had declined the role of Kathleen Kelly in Nora Ephron's romantic comedy You've Got Mail, which was later taken on by Meg Ryan.
"Nothing else comes to mind, but there are also things you don't get, like Meg Ryan was originally cast in 'Steel Magnolias,' but she was still filming 'When Harry Met Sally,' so I got that role," Roberts recounted. "Cate Blanchett was meant to be in 'Closer,' but she got pregnant, so I ended up with that part. So I've stumbled into some great opportunities."
The actress continued to express her admiration for romantic comedies, stating that she enjoys both participating in and watching them, but acknowledges that they can be "difficult to nail down."
Roberts wondered, "It's a simple equation, but how can we make it stand out? How do we maintain audience interest when the outcome is predictable?" For more TV and movie coverage from Dexerto, click here.

As a devoted fan of Julia Roberts and romantic comedies, I am thrilled by the prospect of a sequel to "My Best Friend's Wedding." Roberts' portrayal of Julianne Potter was nothing short of iconic, and the film's exploration of love, friendship, and self-discovery resonated deeply with audiences. The chemistry between Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, and Cameron Diaz was palpable, making the film a timeless classic.
The idea of revisiting these characters and delving into their lives years after the original film is both exciting and nostalgic. It would be fascinating to see how their relationships have evolved, particularly the marriage between Kimmy and Michael. The film's original ending left room for interpretation, and a sequel could provide closure while also exploring new challenges and dynamics. Julia Roberts' passion for the project and her continued interest in romantic comedies only add to my anticipation.
