Hogwarts Valley: Mastering the Merlin Trials – Your Ultimate Guide

In Hogwarts Legacy, players can delve into uncharted territories, raid encampments, and solve an array of puzzles to unlock valuable rewards. Among these challenges are the renowned Merlin Trials, devised by the legendary Wizard Merlin to divert the attention of his fellow Slytherin classmates.

Scattered throughout the vast Hogwarts Realm, these Trials are not readily visible on the map unless players have encountered them during their previous explorations. Additionally, conquering the diverse Merlin Trials necessitates the acquisition of specific Spells and techniques unique to each trial. As such, it is imperative for players to come well-prepared to confront any obstacles that these Trials may present in Hogwarts Legacy.

Updated on July 28, 2023, by Nahda Nabiilah: When tackling the Merlin Trials in any Region of Hogwarts Legacy, players are obligated to utilize specific Spells such as Confringo, Reparo, Lumos, and more. However, not all of these incantations are readily available, as players must complete specific quests to acquire new Spells. Fortunately, these missions are not overly challenging and do not require significant effort from the students. In fact, most of these Spells are obtained as rewards upon completing various Assignments given by Hogwarts Professors, which become available after finishing a Main Quest in Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Valley has 16 Merlin Trials that can be solved in any desired order. The 16 Merlin Trials in Hogwarts Valley are:

Merlin Trial #1 - Stone Sphere Puzzle

Teleport to The Mine’s Eyes Floo Flame in Hogwarts Legacy and proceed in the western direction to discover the initial Merlin Trial in Hogwarts Valley. In order to solve this trial, employ the spell Revelio to unveil the precise location of the sphere. Then, utilize either Wingardium Leviosa or Depulso to transport it safely into the pit.

Merlin Trial #2 - Brazier Puzzle

The second trial of Merlin in Hogwarts Valley can be found to the south of The Mine's Eyes Floo Flame. To solve this challenging puzzle, you will need to use the powerful Confringo Spell to ignite three Braziers. To make locating the Braziers easier, utilize Revelio. Starting from the Merlin altar, you will discover a pillar to the northwest, southwest, and northeast.

Merlin Trial #3 - Broken Statue Puzzle

The third Merlin Trial is situated northwest of the Northern South Sea Bog Floo Flame. It is positioned within an enemy camp, thus requiring players to clear it out before proceeding. To successfully complete the trial, players must locate three damaged statues and utilize the "Reparo" spell to restore them. The statues can be found south of the Trial Altar.

Merlin Trial #4 - Stone Sphere Puzzle

The fourth Merlin Trial is located to the north of the Keenbridge Floo Flame. In order to successfully complete this Trial, players are required to perform the Wingardium Leviosa Spell on the sphere positioned behind the Hamlet shop, and then carefully navigate it across the bridge and into the pit.

Merlin Trial #5 - Firefly Puzzle

Located northwest of the Keenbridge Hamlet, the fifth Merlin Trial presents a series of three Moonstone pillars that require the illumination of fireflies. Hogwarts Legacy offers the Lumos Spell as a means to guide the three swarms of fireflies.

From the Merlin altar:

Turn southwest to find a swarm under the stone bridge

Turn west to see the second swarm

Run east to lure the third swarm

Merlin Trial #6 - Orbs Pillars Puzzle

in the abandoned castle, serving as a clue to the location of the orbs.

Three are west of the Merlin altar

Run south from the altar and turn right to find the final three pillars

Merlin Trial #7 - Orbs Platforms Puzzle

To reach the seventh Merlin Trial, head east from the Floo Flame in West Hogwarts Valley. This Trial is located within a camp of Loyalists that must be cleared out. The puzzle involves locating orbs and bringing them back to three platforms. In order to accomplish this, players will need to cast the Wingardium Leviosa Spell in Hogwarts Legacy.

To encounter the first group of orbs and its corresponding platform, head towards the west.

Enter the gate south and pull the orbs to the platform outside the gate

Go east and destroy the wooden barricade to find the final platform with its orbs, hidden under a rock

Merlin Trial #8 - Orbs Pillars Puzzle

Head in the southern direction from the Lower Hogsfield Floo Flame in order to locate the eighth Merlin Trial situated in Hogwarts Valley. In Hogwarts Legacy, players are required to utilize the Confringo Spell to shatter nine orbs and successfully finish the Trial. Utilizing the Revelio Spell will conveniently highlight the orbs as they are scattered around the altar.

Merlin Trial #9 - Orbs Platforms Puzzle

To discover the ninth Merlin Trial in Hogwarts Valley, head northwest from the West Hogwarts Valley Floo Flame. It is situated high up in the Valley's mountains, adjacent to the Feldcroft Region in Hogwarts Legacy. Conquer this puzzle by locating the three platforms along with their orbs. Then, utilize Wingardium Leviosa to entice the orbs towards the platforms.

The first group of orbs is found southeast, on top of a small hill next to a platform

Head north past a platform and destroy the stones to reveal another group of orbs.

From the altar, climb the slope northeast to find the final orbs and guide them to the third platform

Merlin Trial #10 - Brazier Puzzle

To reach the tenth Merlin Trial near the river in Central Hogwarts Valley, make your way southeast from the Floo Flame. To successfully complete this puzzle, you must use the Confringo Spell to light up three Braziers, ideally starting with the tallest one and ending with the shortest one. Begin by turning southwest from the altar to locate a Brazier near the bridge. As you proceed northwest, you will come across the remaining Braziers along the way.

Merlin Trial #12 - Stone Sphere Puzzle

The eleventh Trial location in Hogwarts Valley, known as Merlin's Trial, is situated to the south of the Central Hogwarts Valley waypoint, adjacent to a bridge. To complete this challenge, players need to utilize any Spell in Hogwarts Legacy to demolish five pillars. These pillars can be easily identified and targeted by using the Revelio Spell.

Teleport to Brocburrow Hamlet and head west to find the next Merlin Trial situated in Hogwarts Valley. Once you arrive, activate the Trial by providing it with Mallowsweet in Hogwarts Legacy.

Afterward, players should proceed southward to assist the sphere in safely reaching its designated pit by employing the Wingardium Leviosa Spell. Alternatively, the sphere can be maneuvered directly into the pit by utilizing Depulso after eliminating any obstructions along its path.

Merlin Trial #13 - Firefly Puzzle

To embark on the thirteenth Merlin Trial in Hogwarts Valley, venture northwest from the Brocburrow Hamlet. Commence the Trial by employing the spell Revelio, which will unveil the location of the three Moonstone pillars. Thereafter, scout for the cluster of fireflies encircling the pillars. Utilize Lumos to entice the fireflies, enticing them to gather around your Wand. Once gathered, guide the fireflies back to the Moonstone Pillars to successfully conquer this Merlin Trial. Notably, the three firefly swarms are situated in close proximity to the moonstone pillars.

Merlin Trial #14 - Platform Bridge Puzzle

The fourteenth Merlin Trial in Hogwarts Valley is west of Brocburrow Hamlet on a hill. To easily solve this Trial, players need to climb and step on the stones without falling.

Merlin Trial #15 - Platform Bridge Puzzle

To reach the fifteenth Merlin Trial in Hogwarts Valley, make your way swiftly to The Mine’s Eye waypoint. Proceed northwards and be prepared to uncover a puzzle. Your goal is to successfully navigate across the stone platforms without succumbing to a fall.

Depulso

Stone Sphere Puzzle Solution:

In Hogwarts Legacy, Professor Sharp's Assignment 1 Quest involves two specific tasks that players must complete. These tasks are integral to learning Depulso and are assigned to players by the Potion Professor. One of these tasks is the Stone Sphere Puzzle.

Acquire and use a Focus Potion.

Acquire Maxima and Edurus Potions, and use them simultaneously.

Wingardium Leviosa

Puzzle: The Stone Sphere Puzzle

Wingardium Leviosa is a well-known spell that is usually taught to new students at Hogwarts School. In order to master the Levitation Spell in the game Hogwarts Legacy, players must successfully complete Assignment 1 of Professor Garlick's quest.

Confringo

Puzzle: Stone Pillar and Brazier - A Challenge Worth Solving

Confringo, a formidable Spell, proves to be highly effective in combat, inflicting significant damage on adversaries. One of its remarkable qualities lies in its extensive range, making it an ideal choice for solving the Brazier Puzzle. Obtaining Confringo is possible by initiating the In the Shadow of the Undercroft Quest, entrusted to Sebastian Sallow.

Reparo

Puzzle: The Puzzle of the Shattered Statue

As a fifth-year student, joining the Defense Against the Dark Arts and Charms classes for the first time can feel quite daunting. Fortunately, Professor Ronen eases the process by leading the players to the courtyard and assigning them a series of simple tasks. Completing these tasks will grant them the opportunity to learn a crucial spell known as Reparo.

Lumos

Firefly Puzzle Solution:

In addition to its conventional function of providing light (Lumos), players have the option to utilize the illumination to attract moths and fireflies, or ward off Devil's Snare. Professor Fig instructs students on the usage of Lumos during an initial Quest known as The Path to Hogwarts.
