How to unlock Vivarium biomes in Hogwarts Legacy
To capture and tame dozens of magical creatures in the Hogwarts Legacy Vivarium biomes, you may encounter a space constraint. Your sanctuary might not have enough room for all the animals you discover. However, there is a solution. As you progress through the campaign, you will unlock additional locations and sanctuary spaces for your furry and magical friends. In our Hogwarts Legacy Vivarium biomes guide, we will explain how you can acquire these extra spaces.
How to unlock Vivarium biomes in Hogwarts Legacy
Before we proceed, we recommend that you refer to our magical beasts guide, which provides a comprehensive explanation of the core concepts related to this mechanic/function in the Room of Requirement. Initially, your Hogwarts Legacy Vivarium biome allows for 12 animals. However, you are limited to only four different species. For example, if your biome already houses a Unicorn, Hippogriff, Thestral, and Puffskein, you won't be able to add another creature such as a Giant Toad.
To obtain a Vivarium upgrade, you must unlock a completely different biome, which can only be done by completing Deek's sidequest arc.
Coastal biome
In order to unlock new Vivarium biomes in Hogwarts Legacy, you will need to finish Deek's quest chain. Along the way, you will encounter spiders and poachers.
Coastal biome
The second Vivarium biome that becomes accessible to you is the Coastal biome. To unlock this biome, you need to complete The High Keep and obtain your flying mount. Afterward, you will embark on a quest called Plight of the House Elf, which triggers a cutscene introducing you to the new beach location.
The Plight of the House Elf objectives require players to venture into a treacherous cave filled with numerous spiders, including the formidable Acromantula.
Swamp biome
Following the completion of the Plight of the House Elf and a significant main quest known as Charles Rookwood's Trial, Deek will assign yet another task to you. This quest, titled Foal of the Dead, introduces the captivating Beast breeding mechanic within the game's mechanics.
Mountain biome
Unlock the fourth and final Hogwarts Legacy Vivarium biome by completing the Niamh Fitzgerald's Trial quest. This will grant you access to the Phoenix Rising sidequest and allow you to explore a charming mountain area. As a bonus, you'll also receive a one-of-a-kind pet.
By the end of this questline, you will have a total of four Vivarium biomes. This means that despite the species limit per location, you can house numerous animals in each biome.
