Hogwarts Legacy features a wide variety of magical beasts, including Mooncalves, who are adorable despite not being the smartest of creatures.
The player discovered that Mooncalfs and other creatures could effortlessly escape from the cages in Hogwarts Legacy, rendering the protagonist's attempts to set them free somewhat futile.
One of the game's standout features is the opportunity to embellish the Room of Requirement and house magical creatures such as the Mooncalf in a Vivarium.
Hogwarts Legacy offers players the opportunity to rescue and gather a diverse array of magical creatures, including Mooncalves. However, not all of these creatures possess high intelligence, as shown in footage captured by a player. While the presence of magical beasts has always been a part of the Wizarding World, it wasn't until the spin-off featuring Newt Scamander that these creatures gained immense popularity among more casual fans. The game's exceptional success on Steam in 2023 solidified Hogwarts Legacy as one of the year's biggest titles and drew attention to the more obscure and mystical aspects of the Wizarding World.
Apart from its expansive open world, Hogwarts Legacy garnered praise for its Room of Requirement, which allowed players to decorate and furnish it to their liking. Additionally, players had access to a Vivarium where they could house and care for the magical creatures they encountered in the wild. The game integrated its crafting system with these creatures, enabling players to gather animal byproducts and use them to craft or upgrade their equipment. Many players also found delight in creating an ambiance filled with creatures like Thestrals or Unicorns in their gloomy marsh.
These magical creatures can be obtained from vendors, captured from nests, or saved from poachers. One of the first creatures players encounter in Hogwarts Legacy are the Mooncalves. A Reddit user, DogifyerHero, cleverly pointed out that the Mooncalves were small enough to escape their cages, suggesting that they didn't need to be rescued. This point was emphasized using the popular "Are they stupid?" meme format.
If we compare the size of their eyes to the size of their skull, it's clear that Mooncalves aren't the brightest creatures. However, their lack of intelligence does not diminish their adorableness. Many players have filled their Vivarium in Hogwarts Legacy with Mooncalves, as they play a crucial role in upgrading equipment and are almost essential for any playthrough.
Although Avalanche Software's Hogwarts Legacy had a massively successful launch, little is known about the possibility of a sequel or any significant DLCs for the first game. Despite this uncertainty, magical creatures like the Mooncalf have undeniably become standout features in Hogwarts Legacy, showcasing their exceptional conceptualization. The game is currently accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Switch version set to be released on November 14.
