This leads to a series of gripping events, including a kidnapping and the takeover of a news station. The chaos unfolds when a massive sinkhole forms outside their house and water lines burst, causing a geyser to flood the street, sparking panic in the neighborhood. 10 Nandor Revealing The Truth About Vampires On The 7 O'Clock News
In the meantime, while the other characters in What We Do in the Shadows are struggling to handle the situation involving Nandor, Guillermo is confronted with the inevitable aspect of his full transformation into a vampire. He contemplates the difficult task of distancing himself from his family, as they belong to a clan of vampire hunters. Guillermo believes it is unsafe to continue associating with them and fears that he may harm them when his vampiric instincts take hold. The situation intensifies when Nandor's mistake starts to attract attention and the fate of not only vampires in Staten Island but also vampires worldwide hangs in the balance.
Listening to eccentric witnesses is part of the enjoyment of watching the news, and Nandor certainly fits the bill when approached for his thoughts on the giant sinkhole and subsequent flooding. Regrettably, he unintentionally reveals that, based on his recollection of the flooding in 1892, the current sinkhole is not as severe. This slips out, causing the newscaster to innocently question his skincare routine, while Nandor insists that he actually meant 1992. The situation takes a turn for the worse when he fails to salvage his response and inadvertently reveals that he has been living in the neighborhood for centuries, prompting him to hastily leave the scene, all the while realizing that he has unintentionally provided evidence of vampires' existence to everyone at home.
9 Nandor Trying To Hypnotize The Viewers At Home
8 Colin Preparing Their Home With Elaborate Booby Traps For The Inevitable Siege
Nandor is responsible for protecting the true identities of himself and the other vampires, but Guillermo is unavailable as he is visiting his family during their time of need. Consequently, Nandor must devise a solution. After considering various options, Nandor concludes that the only viable choice is to hypnotize the viewers of the 7 O'Clock News. However, just as he approaches the newscaster to carry out his plan, the broadcast is abruptly interrupted by a weather update. This recurring joke emphasizes Nandor's heightened concern about the potential consequences of exposing his identity, contrasting with the lack of worry displayed by the humans.
While Nadja desires to escape the residence with her vampire "go bag" and intricately assumed identity, Colin insists on taking a stand and confronting the imminent threat. Without delay, he proceeds to fortify the house with an array of complex snares, anticipating the onslaught of enraged citizens from Staten Island armed with torches and pitchforks. His trap designs feature trip wires connected to cement blocks, door knobs that activate flamethrowers, and a chandelier adorned with hanging knives, ready to descend upon unsuspecting intruders. In response to Colin's efforts, Nadja interjects with a statement that aptly captures her essence, "Colin Robinson, this is not the time for embellishments!"
7 Laszlo & Nandor Trying To Kidnap The Newscaster
6 Guillermo Upstaging His Mom's Birthday Party With His Vampire Drama
Preparing for her new life as a blonde Mid-Westerner, Nadja joins forces with Colin, who is wiring the house with explosives. Their objective is to gain Nandor's support in their plan: to kidnap the newscaster before she can further broadcast Nandor's immortal status. After a disagreement about the size of burlap sacks to be used for the kidnapping, they meet at the sinkhole fully equipped to carry out their mission. A humorous scene unfolds as Nandor and Laszlo stealthily approach the newscaster, resembling a pair of cartoon characters. However, their plot is abandoned abruptly when they realize that their getaway vehicle is falling into the hole.
Guillermo finds himself in a dilemma when he visits his mother's house to bid farewell, only to discover that it's her birthday. Despite his attempts to have a heartfelt conversation with her amidst the chaos caused by his vampire-hunting family, his endeavors are constantly disrupted by Channel 8's live coverage of the sinkhole, featuring appearances by Nandor, Laszlo, and The Guide. Gradually, Guillermo becomes consumed with contacting the vampires, resulting in him inadvertently missing out on the birthday celebration. Even when his mother is the sole remaining person at home, Guillermo is compelled to depart in order to rescue his master.
5 The Car Falling Into The Massive Sinkhole
4 Colin Setting Fire To the News Van
In an unfortunate turn of events, Laszlo and Nandor attempt to abduct the newscaster, only to have their vehicle succumb to a monstrous sinkhole. Thankfully, Nadja, The Guide, and Colin Robinson come to their aid, but extricating the car will demand not just their exceptional strength but also their ability to soar through the sky. As their expertise in exacerbating situations proves, the vampires fall into Channel 8's clutches, suspended several yards above the ground with their car.
To divert the newscaster's attention from the abduction and subsequent appearance of a flying car, Colin Robinson is enlisted to create a diversion. Adorned in camouflage attire, war paint, a bandanna, and a utility vest, he resembles the local Rambo, skillfully tossing a makeshift explosive into the rear of the news van. The resulting inferno grants the vampires a brief reprieve to retreat from the scene and regroup for their next assault, which involves infiltrating the Channel 8 news station itself.
3 Nandor & Nadja Taking Over The News Station
In a final attempt to prevent humans from discovering the existence of vampires, Nandor and the group seize control of a news station. After successfully hypnotizing the audience, Nandor and Nadja opt to maintain normalcy by presenting the remaining evening news, which includes a segment on the upcoming Puppy Parade. This entire sequence exemplifies why What We Do in the Shadows stands out as one of the finest vampire television series. Not only does it cleverly exploit the popular perception of vampires, but it continually showcases their incompetence, highlighted by their missed opportunity to execute something truly diabolical towards humanity when granted their largest platform yet.
2 Colin & Laszlo Doing Weather & Sports
Colin and Laszlo's assignment to Sports and Weather is even more hilarious than Nadja and Nandor dissecting the Puppy Parade. The way Laszlo delivers the news with his charm makes fans wonder if most sportscasters could be seductive vampires themselves. And seeing Colin, an energy vampire, do the weather report is an opportunity that rivals last week's town hall in What We Do in the Shadows. But the icing on the cake is when a blood splatter from The Guide (who is caught on camera devouring an intern) is mistaken for a doppler weather pattern.
1 Guillermo Accidentally Setting Off All Of Colin's Booby Traps Himself
In an episode filled with hilarity and extreme antics, Guillermo cluelessly wanders around the manor while the gang is away at the news station, accidentally triggering all the booby traps set up by Colin Robinson. This not only showcases Harvey Guillen's impressive physical comedic skills but also serves as a satisfying conclusion to an episode that is undoubtedly one of the best in What We Do in the Shadows, brimming with laughs from start to finish. As the vampires demonstrate their ability to recover from major blunders without Guillermo's assistance, it only fuels his impatience to join their ranks, simply to alleviate his sense of purposelessness.
