The Celtic match against Glasgow City, the champions of the Scottish Women's Premier League, will be broadcast live on We. This highly anticipated clash between last season's top two teams will mark the opening game of the new SWPL season, airing on Thursday, October 5th at 7:30pm.

Glasgow City emerged victorious with a 1-0 win when they clashed at Excelsior Stadium in March. However, in the post-split matches of the previous season, Celtic came out on top on both occasions.

Gary Hughes, the Director of Football at We, expressed his enthusiasm for the growing prowess of women's football and the excitement of showcasing the early-season encounter between last year's top two teams to our viewers.

"We are excited to announce that we have achieved a remarkable milestone this season with an unprecedented number of broadcast matches selected. This accomplishment is particularly remarkable as it comes at such an early stage, as we gear up for the start of the highly anticipated 2023/24 league campaign.

The previous season concluded with a bang, capturing the attention of audiences with its thrilling conclusion. We witnessed unparalleled attendances, extensive coverage, and impressive viewership across all our esteemed broadcast partners."

The inclusion of all clubs at least once and the selection of numerous games in the early weeks of the new season highlight the positive growth in women's football. It is encouraging to see our broadcast partners acknowledge this progress. Our main goal is to build on recent advancements and enhance the visibility of our sport. Therefore, we are extremely pleased to provide a wide range of matches to households across Scotland in the opening weeks of the new season.

Rangers kick off their We Cup defence against Hearts

Rangers will start their defense of the We Cup by facing SWPL rivals Hearts on September 3rd.

Last season, the Gers lifted the trophy at Tynecastle Park, defeating Hibernian 2-0 in the final. This match was notable as it was the first ever SWPL game to be broadcast live on Sky. Despite their cup success, Rangers were unable to secure the league and Scottish Cup titles.

Glasgow City, the reigning SWPL champions, will face either St Johnstone or Livingston, while Celtic will also be playing away against Hamilton Accies.

Hibernian, who have won the tournament seven times, will be up against Aberdeen, both of whom have newly appointed managers. Additionally, newly promoted Montrose will be taking on Motherwell, and Spartans will be hosted by Partick Thistle.

Dundee United will travel to Gartcairn or Kilmarnock, while Stirling University or Boroughmuir Thistle will face Queen's Park or Glasgow Women after the first round.
