The console release of Phasmophobia has been delayed again, with no confirmed date provided this time. Originally set for October 2023, the delay was caused by a fire at Kinetic Games' workplace in the UK.

Originally launched in September 2020 as a PC exclusive in early access, Phasmophobia is well-known for its highly adaptable and customizable gameplay. It offers various modes, including multiplayer, and is even compatible with virtual reality. Following its release, the game experienced a surge in popularity, even among horror games, receiving praise from critics and Twitch streamers. It became the top-selling game on Steam for three consecutive weeks and won the Best Debut Game award at The Game Awards 2020. This widespread popularity prompted the British indie developer to begin working on porting Phasmophobia to consoles made by Sony and Microsoft.

On the official Steam page of the game, Phasmophobia's console release delay was detailed by Kinetic Games. The explanation stated that the studio's staff was facing difficulties in adapting to the new remote working environment after the studio fire. Additionally, the development team aims to optimize the PS5 version for the recently released PS VR2 peripheral. As part of this process, significant alterations were required for Phasmophobia's Maple Lodge Campsite, including a new layout and improved performance. These factors are the primary causes for the continued delay of the console versions. While no specific release date was provided, Kinetic Games assured fans that updates on the progress and a subsequent release date will be communicated later.

The initial plan for Phasmophobia's console ports was to coincide with an in-game Halloween event on October 26. However, Kinetic has confirmed that the event will proceed as scheduled for PC players. An updated version of Maple Lodge Campsite now features a cauldron where players can brew potions using recipe cards found in different in-game locations. Additionally, the campsite and lobby will have Halloween-themed decorations throughout the event. Players who complete the event will receive a new trophy and ID badge.

Game delays are always disappointing, especially for highly anticipated games. They often dampen the excitement and reception before release. However, Phasmophobia's fans have been understanding of previous delays, thanks to the developers' previous interactions with them.
