Heroes of the Storm Infused with New Content through a Starcraft 2 Mod

A dedicated fan has breathed new life into Blizzard's MOBA, Heroes of the Storm, with an impressive Starcraft 2 mod called Resurgence of the Storm Experience the thrill of this fan recreation and keep the dream of the game alive

The development of Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard's MOBA featuring characters from its popular game franchises, came to an end in 2022. However, a dedicated group of fans has created a free mod called Resurgence of the Storm for Blizzard's Starcraft 2. This mod completely transforms the RTS into a version that closely resembles the official game. Unlike Heroes of the Storm, which no longer receives new content, Resurgence of the Storm offers new heroes, updated talents and abilities, and even a content roadmap. After over four years of development, the mod is now available to the public.

The mod currently offers 15 playable heroes, some familiar to Heroes of the Storm players and others completely new. Among the new heroes are Selendis, a melee assassin, and Talandar, a tanky bruiser, both from Starcraft 2. Arthas has undergone significant changes, with a new talent tree, enhanced abilities, and a new heroic ability. Other characters like Diablo, Malfurion, and Ragnaros have also had their talents and abilities adjusted.

"We, like many others, miss HoTS," said SomeoneNew, one of the mod's creators, in a video overview of the project. "We miss reading patch notes, getting excited for new heroes, reworks, [and] balance changes. So we took it into our own hands."

In the video, SomeoneNew clarifies that Resurgence of the Storm is not intended to completely replace Heroes of the Storm. While Heroes of the Storm offers a wide range of maps and 90 playable characters, Resurgence of the Storm currently only offers 15 characters and two maps. However, the mod is actively working on adding more heroes and maps in the future.

SomeoneNew also mentions that as a Starcraft 2 mod, there are certain limitations. Some models and abilities cannot be replicated or transferred. Additionally, there are no quick-cast settings, as all players must use on-release.

In order to play Resurgence of the Storm, players must first install the free-to-play Starcraft 2 through Battle.net. They also need to join the Resurgence of the Storm Discord server and download the mod. It is important to note that the mod does not currently support matchmaking. Players who want to give Resurgence of the Storm a try will have to find other players through the LFG channel in the mod's official Discord server.

Editor's P/S

As a hard fan of Heroes of the Storm, I am thrilled to see that a dedicated group of fans has created a Starcraft 2 mod called Resurgence of the Storm. This mod brings new life to the game, offering new heroes, updated talents and abilities, and even a content roadmap. I am particularly excited about the new heroes, Selendis and Talandar, as well as the changes to Arthas. I can't wait to try out the mod and experience the thrill of playing Heroes of the Storm once again.

While I am grateful for the efforts of the mod creators, I can't help but feel a sense of sadness that Blizzard has abandoned Heroes of the Storm. The game had a lot of potential, and it's a shame that it was not given the support it deserved. I hope that Blizzard will reconsider their decision and bring Heroes of the Storm back to life, but in the meantime, I am happy to have Resurgence of the Storm to keep me entertained.
