Heather Locklear has been “struggling” with her sobriety after previously battling substance abuse issues.
According to a source familiar with the matter, Heather Locklear, 61, had expressed her desire to return to rehab more than a month ago. However, it appears that she has not followed through on this intention. The insider reveals that Locklear has remained mostly confined to her home, with only a few sightings of her outside. Recently, she garnered attention when pictures emerged of her appearing distressed while walking along a building ledge in Malibu, California.
"It was truly a bizarre sight, quite shocking," an eyewitness disclosed to Us when recounting the events of the incident on June 29. "She appeared to be engaged in a conversation with herself, without a doubt. One can only wonder what may have been happening. At one point, she dashed across the road while making peculiar expressions, only to return and isolate herself. And why was she walking along the steep wall wearing flip-flops? It was a perilous drop, and had she fallen, the consequences could have been severe."
Locklear has endured multiple periods of treatment as she grapples with her journey towards sobriety and addressing her mental health. Her most recent stint in rehab concluded in October 2019, and she was mandated by the court to continue therapy through an outpatient program. Furthermore, she was put under a 5150 psychiatric hold in November 2018 following reports of an altercation with Heisser, aged 61.
Locklear has had multiple encounters with the legal system. In 2018, she was taken into custody twice for assaulting police officers, which nearly resulted in a 120-day jail sentence. However, she managed to negotiate a plea agreement that mandated her participation in a rehabilitation program and three years of probation.
Despite Locklear's apparent celebration of one year of sobriety in April 2020, as she conveyed on Instagram with the message, "Hugs will come later! 1 year sober today!!!," according to the source, her troubles have persisted.
"According to a trusted source, her friends speculate that she may not have actually stopped drinking after being placed on unsupervised probation by a judge in 2019. With no one keeping an eye on her, it remains unknown if she truly gave up alcohol, even during that time."
"In addition, Locklear's substance abuse problems have caused her to lose several close friendships in recent years, as confirmed by two additional sources."

Concerns are growing for Heather and her loved ones are desperate for her to seek help. The release of these photos is seen as a wake-up call for her to address the issues she's facing. There is a strong desire to understand not only the events of that particular day but also the overall situation, as it is evident that something is amiss.
Locklear, nevertheless, has a supportive family. This includes her 25-year-old daughter Ava, whom she shares with her ex-husband Richie Sambora. According to an insider's exclusive information to Us in 2018, the mother-daughter pair have always shared a strong bond despite Locklear's personal struggles. (Locklear and Sambora were married from 1994 to 2007.)
Ava, on her part, expressed the same sentiment a year later, stating in a February 2019 interview with Wingman magazine: "I aspire to emulate my mother's success."
Locklear and Heisser were high school sweethearts in the 1970s. They later rekindled their romance in 2017, but their relationship has faced difficulties. In 2018, the police were called to Locklear's home multiple times due to fights between them, leading to Locklear's arrest for domestic violence. In 2019, the couple ended their relationship, as confirmed by Us. However, they reunited and announced their engagement in June 2020.
