343 Industries is finally releasing a highly anticipated update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection after a long six-month wait. This impressive update brings numerous improvements, new content, and even fixes for modding. Fans who have been eagerly waiting for a chance to dive back into the Halo universe will be pleased to know that the update is set to launch on July 12th.
It's important to note that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is not just a single game. With this comprehensive update from 343 Industries, changes, enhancements, and additional content will be spread across multiple games. The collection includes Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4, making it a massive bundle of content in one complete package.
343's new Halo: The Master Chief Collection is placing a strong emphasis on Firefight, which is now available in Halo: Reach and Halo 3: ODST. The Custom Games Browser now includes Firefight, enabling players to create and participate in customized Firefight sessions. This update brings a couple of additional advantages as well. Firstly, Firefight now supports join-in-progress, allowing players to join a match even after it has already begun. Secondly, 343 has increased the player capacity for Firefight in the Custom Games Browser from 4 to 8 players. While difficulty doesn't scale beyond four players, this adjustment provides flexibility for custom groups.
Expanding on the improvements to Firefight, 343 has also introduced a new game mode specifically for Halo: Reach. Those familiar with the first multiplayer beta of Halo: Reach may remember a "Network Test 1" 3v3 PvP Generator Defense mode. This mode has made a comeback in the upcoming update, removing Firefight waves and reintroducing a PvP Generator Defense mode that supports up to 8 players.
In addition to Firefight, there are many exciting features to look forward to in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Halo 4's campaign now includes Theater Mode and Spartan Ops modes. Halo 3 players will be pleased to know that a new game mode called Escalation Slayer, similar to Call of Duty's Gun Game, has been added. Custom controller mapping is now supported across all games in the collection. For Halo 2, Golden Moa collectibles have been introduced, while Halo: Combat Evolved now includes the Acrophobia skull. There is truly something for every game in the Master Chief Collection.
All of these additions and more will be part of the July 2023 update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. According to 343, this update marks the development team's first patch that focuses solely on improving the game, without the need to worry about new platform features or porting games to PC. As a result, the team has been able to fully expand and enhance this update, making the six-month wait worthwhile. The future of Halo: The Master Chief Collection remains uncertain, but for now, Halo fans have a lot to be excited about.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
