In A Zest for Death: A Hannah Swensen Mystery, Alison Sweeney’s character, Hannah Swensen, discovers the harsh reality of the competitive and dangerous world of house hunting.
Hannah's sister Michelle (played by Tess Atkins) inquires about Rhonda's motivation for selling in an exclusive preview of the new Hallmark Movies & Mysteries film. The real estate agent responds with a smile, saying, "She's considering a move back to the East coast."
As the sisters explore the house, previously owned by Rhonda, a customer of Hannah's Cookie Jar, their mother, Barbara Niven as Delores, goes upstairs to check out the closets. Delores playfully says, "You can learn everything about the house just by looking at the closet space."
Hannah seems convinced about the property, saying to her sibling, "I was thinking of showing our appreciation to Rhonda by baking her some delightful double-fudge brownies and letting her know how much we love the house." Michelle agrees, noting its "promising" potential, and becomes enthusiastic about making an offer.
As they happily commemorate Michelle's potential relocation, Delores appears downstairs, wearing a fearful expression on her face. "Mother, what's wrong?" Hannah inquires, before unexpectedly discovering Rhonda's lifeless body on the bedroom floor. With blood near her head, Rhonda lies motionless on the ground, prompting Hannah to immediately switch into amateur detective mode.

A Zest for Death is the most recent addition to the Hannah Swensen Mysteries series on the network. Originally, Sweeney, who is 47, portrayed the character of Hannah Swensen, a baker turned amateur detective, in the Murder, She Baked movies that were released from 2015 to 2017.
In August 2021, Sweeney brought back the character in Sweet Revenge: A Hannah Swensen Mystery. When asked about her fondness for Hannah Swensen, Sweeney told Us exclusively in October 2022, "I am a big fan of Hannah Swensen and I will do everything I can to keep her alive." She also hinted at the possibility of more baking-themed films, stating, "I love making those movies. To be honest, they are my favorites."
The actress has recently starred alongside her love interest in the franchise, Cameron Mathison, who plays Detective Mike Kingston, in the films Carrot Cake Murder: A Hannah Swensen Mystery (2023) and A Zest for Death. The latest mystery in the series is described as a "family affair" for Hannah as she stumbles upon Rhonda's body while helping her younger sister search for a permanent home. While Hannah believes that Mike and the Sheriff are focusing on the wrong suspect, the investigation becomes a collaborative effort when her sister, Andrea, pays a visit.
