Article Overview

Grant Gustin reveals he was - to his knowledge - never contacted for a cameo in The Flash movie.

The absence of Gustin's Barry Allen in The Flash movie has sparked ongoing discussions among audiences. This opens up the potential for his character to potentially appear in the DCU.

Grant Gustin, star of the Arrowverse, recently disclosed that he was never contacted about making a cameo in The Flash movie as part of the DCEU. Despite the momentous year for Barry Allen in 2023, with the conclusion of the Arrowverse TV show and the release of Ezra Miller's The Flash movie, Gustin did not join the DCEU's multiverse exploration. The Flash movie featured two versions of Miller's hero and a new Golden age Flash, but did not include Gustin's rendition. Even after several months since the movie's release, the absence of Gustin's Scarlet Speedster remains a hot topic, with Gustin confirming at GalaxyCon that he was never officially approached for a role in the film.

As far as I know, I was never officially contacted by anyone about the movie. My representatives never informed me if they were. So, no one ever reached out to me regarding the film.

RelatedGrant Gustin Vs. Ezra Miller: Which Version Of The Flash Is More Powerful

Grant Gustin and Ezra Miller have long-running performances as The Flash, but one beats out the other as the most powerful live-action Flash.

Why Grant Gustin Was The Perfect Cameo For The Flash

Despite The Flash movie's focus on the multiverse, not including Gustin's version of The Flash in the film has been a source of controversy. Many fans felt that the movie missed a significant opportunity for Miller's Flash to interact with an alternative version of himself from another world. The movie opted to feature two Barrys portrayed by Miller instead, and while the possibility of using Gustin's Flash in a time-travel storyline was present, the character did not make an appearance until the end of the movie among numerous other cameos.

It is worth noting that the Arrowverse's Flash had already connected with the DCEU through Miller's Barry's cameo in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. The historic crossover had paved the way for major movie and TV characters to interact, leading many to hope for Gustin's involvement in The Flash movie. However, the only Flash-related cameo was a Jay Garrick doppelganger portrayed by a VFX editor, which ultimately had little impact on the overall narrative.

Following The Flash season 9, Gustin's show has now become the longest-running Arrowverse series in history.

It would be fantastic to see Gustin's Flash make an appearance in a future multiverse story as part of James Gunn's DC Universe. Gustin's portrayal of the fastest man alive has garnered a strong fan following and it would surely generate excitement if he were to return. In the meantime, fans can enjoy every season of The Flash TV show as well as The Flash movie on streaming platforms or Blu-Ray/DVD.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan, I'm disappointed that Grant Gustin wasn't contacted for a cameo in The Flash movie. He's been playing the character for almost a decade and has a huge fan base. It would have been great to see him interact with Ezra Miller's Flash and explore the multiverse. I think it was a missed opportunity for the movie and for fans of the Arrowverse.

I understand that the movie wanted to focus on Miller's Flash, but I think there was still room for Gustin to make a small appearance. Even if it was just a brief cameo, it would have been enough to satisfy fans and show that the Arrowverse is still connected to the DCEU. I hope that in future DC movies, there will be more opportunities for Gustin to appear as The Flash.
