Gigi Hadid was apprehended on July 10 for carrying marijuana during her flight to the Cayman Islands.
According to Gigi's spokesperson, she had legally acquired the marijuana in New York City with a medical license. Additionally, the representative clarified that the substance has been authorized for medical purposes in Grand Cayman since 2017. Despite the incident, Gigi's criminal record remains untarnished, and she was able to continue enjoying her stay on the island.
Hadid, aged 28, and her friend, model Leah McCarthy, were apprehended by customs officials at Owen Roberts International Airport in the Cayman Islands, as reported by Cayman Marl Road. The local news outlet stated that authorities discovered "ganja and paraphernalia for ganja consumption" in their luggage, albeit in a small quantity presumed to be for personal use.
Although the possession of marijuana is legal on Grand Cayman, it remains illegal to import the substance from other countries. Consequently, Hadid and McCarthy, both aged respectively 28 and 29, were arrested on charges of "Importation of Ganja and Importation of Utensils used for the consumption of ganja." Following their arrest, they were temporarily held at the Prisoner Detention Center before being released on bail.
Hadid and McCarthy were charged and pleaded guilty on July 12, resulting in a fine of $1,000 each. With the legal issue resolved, no conviction was recorded.
Despite the incident, both models appeared to relish the remainder of their vacation, as evidenced by their recent Instagram posts showcasing them relaxing in bikinis.

On the same day that Zayn Malik, the ex-partner of Gigi Hadid and father of their daughter Khai, spoke out about his legal troubles on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, Hadid's own legal ordeal was resolved.
In October 2021, it was confirmed that Malik faced four criminal charges of harassment following a reported altercation with Gigi's mother, Yolanda Hadid, the previous month. According to court documents, Malik was accused of causing Yolanda, who is now 59 years old, mental distress and physical pain by pushing her and hurling offensive language at her on their Pennsylvania property. Allegedly, he referred to Gigi's mom as "a f–king Dutch slut" and warned her to "stay away from [my] f–king daughter." Although Malik denied the allegations, he ultimately entered a plea of no contest. Subsequently, he successfully completed a court-mandated anger management program as well as a domestic violence program.
During a recent podcast interview, the former member of One Direction expressed that he handled the situation by opting not to address it further. In a tweet, he had previously mentioned that the matter was private at that time.
During his conversation with Alex Cooper earlier this month, he stated, "I was well aware of the situation and so were the people involved. That was all that mattered to me." He further explained, "I simply wanted to maintain the privacy and avoid engaging in any negative exchanges with her or any online narrative that my daughter might come across in the future."
