Sony has announced that Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will be premiering a week earlier than planned, hitting IMAX and regular theaters on March 22. The film will feature two generations of Ghostbusters teaming up for the first time to combat a new threat and prevent a second Ice Age. Director Gil Kenan, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jason Reitman, is excited for the next chapter in the Ghostbusters franchise.
"I vividly recall a moment during the first morning of directing a major scene, when I glanced at the monitor and found myself wearing the biggest grin," Kenan shared. "It finally hit me that I was in charge of calling 'Action!' and 'Cut!' for some of my all-time favorite movie characters, working on a grand cinematic project that truly mattered to me. I strive to hold on to that feeling, even now as I near completion of the film."
This upcoming Ghostbusters movie will mark the first time the franchise is released during the spring, as the previous three films were released in the summer, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife was released in November.
The film stars Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts.
