Genji Unleashed: The Unintended Consequences of Overwatch 2's Latest Update

Overwatch 2's latest update unintentionally increased Genji's power, making him even more formidable in Season 5 Players are noticing the difference and Genji mains are rejoicing at the unexpected boost

Blizzard's latest update for Overwatch 2 Season 5 has introduced an experimental change that was not intended to go live on public servers. Despite this, the game developer has decided to leave it as is. The Season 5 update features a fantasy-themed season with a new Battle Pass, which offers players an evolving mythic skin for Tracer, as well as an array of cosmetic skins such as Demon Lord Reinhardt, Slime Queen Echo, and Rogue Kiriko, available on both the free and premium tracks of the Battle Pass. Along with these additions, character balancing changes were made to the game, with buffs given to Roadhog and Lifeweaver, and tweaks made to Mei and Cassidy's crowd control abilities. On the other hand, Junker Queen, Widowmaker, and Hanzo received a few nerfs. Surprisingly, Genji received an accidental buff, which caught both Blizzard and fans off guard.

After the Season 5 update on Overwatch 2, fans quickly noticed that Genji's ammo had been increased to a total of 30. This change allows for less reloading and more focus on damaging and pressuring the opposing team, ultimately leading to a faster ultimate meter build-up. Interestingly, Blizzard's Lead Hero Designer, Alec Dawson, acknowledged this change and even shared insight into the development process. Apparently, the developers at Blizzard were experimenting with various Genji changes prior to the Season 5 launch. Although the ammo increase was initially meant to be included as part of these changes, it was accidentally left in while other tweaks were reverted. Dawson confirmed that Blizzard intends to keep the increased ammo count and will not be changing it in future patches.

The highly anticipated return of the On Fire mechanic from the original Overwatch has finally arrived in Season 5, much to the delight of fans. To make it even more engaging, Blizzard has added new features such as sound effects and animations. Being On Fire now has a higher level called Blazing, which requires exceptional gameplay to maintain as it decreases at a much faster rate. Don't miss out on the action as Overwatch 2 is available now on multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
