Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are currently progressing towards the release of their two-part DLC known as The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. These content packs are expected to introduce new maps, new Pokemon, and a fresh storyline to the 9th Generation Pokemon games. Despite a challenging initial launch, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have steadily improved through patches and the integration of features like Pokemon HOME. With forthcoming significant updates anticipated in the latter half of 2023, coinciding with The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk, there is still ample room for these games to evolve.
Exciting rumors suggest that these games could receive substantial visual enhancements in the future, potentially linked to the highly speculated Nintendo Switch successor. It would be exhilarating to witness Pokemon's open world and seamless co-op debut receiving the graphical polish it truly deserves, complementing whatever The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero has in store. Furthermore, another popular rumor suggests the return of a gaming element experimented with in previous Pokemon games.
Tera Forms Are The Next In a Line of Pokemon Battle Gimmicks
Since the release of Pokemon X and Y, the franchise has been experimenting with different methods of mid-battle transformations. Mega Evolution was introduced in Generation 6, followed by Z-Moves in Pokemon Sun and Moon, and then the combination of both in Sword and Shield through Gigantamaxing. Dynamaxing allowed every Pokemon to use this transformation, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet took it further with Terastallization, granting a Tera Type to each Pokemon, different from their usual typing. While opinions on Terastallization are divided in Scarlet and Violet, it has added an intriguing new element to competitive Pokemon battles.
In a similar fashion to how the starter evolutions in Pokemon Sword and Shield did not initially have Gigantamax forms until the DLC was released, another aspect of Terastallization may be forthcoming. Leaks suggest that this new feature will be called a Tera Form, and it is likely to be similar to the exclusive Gigantamax forms. Unlike regular Terastallization, which provides Pokemon with a crystal sheen and extravagant hat, Tera Forms will have completely new appearances. As the name implies, these transformations are expected to offer more than just visual changes.
What Gaining And Using Tera Forms Could Be Like
Tera Forms have the potential to bring about significant changes in a Pokemon's Typing, similar to the effects of Mega Evolution and Gigantamaxing. Along with altering their Typing, there is a possibility that Tera Forms may also affect a Pokemon's stat distribution and ability. Like Gigantamaxing, it is expected that only certain members of a specific Pokemon species will have access to a Tera Form, potentially replacing their previous Typing. These rare Pokemon, such as Charizard, will likely be obtainable through Tera Raid Battles. If they possess the move Tera Blast, it could potentially transform into a visually impressive and personalized Z-Move when changing forms.
One distinctive aspect of Tera Forms, which sets them apart from previous transformations, is their significance in regards to the storyline of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Many have noticed that the DLC takes players away from the Paldea region's Area Zero, despite it being mentioned in the expansion's title. This is likely because certain elements from The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero will reveal an expanded Area Zero, introducing Tera Forms in the process. It is even possible that the treasure referred to in the title is a collection of special crystals that grant Tera Forms, discovered near the resting place of Terapagos in The Indigo Disk. Regardless of the specifics, fans are eagerly anticipating more information on this exciting feature that will soon be added to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are out now for the Nintendo Switch.
