Game of Thrones Creators' Revealed Change for the Fantasy Series

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss discuss the one thing they would change about the Game of Thrones series, surprising fans with their revelation about the character Mord the Jailer.

The Surprising Change

The creators of the Game of Thrones TV show have revealed one thing they would change about the fantasy series, but it's probably not anything you would guess. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff said they'd make a change related to the character Mord the Jailer, who was played by Ciaran Bermingham.

When Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) was locked up in the Sky Cells, he offered the jailer a bribe and eventually made good by giving him gold coins. As the saying goes, 'a Lannister always pays his debts.

Weiss said, 'It was a mistake not bringing Mord the Jailer back. 'We always talked about doing it.'

Benioff said the team even had an entire scene planned out for this, and it could have revolved around Mord spending his newly acquired wealth to open up a tavern. This could have come into play when The Hound and Arya stop in at a pub and The Hound eats an entire chicken.

'We realized too late that Mord could have owned the tavern. We could have had that actor in the background acting exactly the way he did as a jailer, except now as a small business owner. It was just such an obvious, no-brainer, day-after idea,' Weiss said.

Weiss and Benioff did not say if this was the only thing they might change about Game of Thrones if given the chance, or if it was just one possibility. Fans, on the other hand, probably have plenty of suggestions for what they would like to see changed if there was a do-over, considering how poorly received the final season was.

The Legacy of Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones ended its eight-season run in 2019. The franchise lives on with the prequel series House of the Dragon, which is coming back later this year. Beyond that, there are multiple other spinoffs in development, but they may never get made.

What's more, author George R.R. Martin continues to plug away at the next book, The Winds of Winter, but there is no telling when it may be ready.

The Impact on Fans and the Future

The revelation by Weiss and Benioff about the potential change to the Game of Thrones series has sparked discussions among fans about what they would like to see altered if given the chance. With the final season receiving mixed reviews, fans have strong opinions about how the series could have been improved.

As the franchise expands with new series and potential spinoffs, the future of the Game of Thrones universe remains uncertain. While House of the Dragon is highly anticipated, the success of future projects may determine the lasting impact of the series on popular culture.
