Southampton have secured the services of Shea Charles, a promising teenager, in a potential £15m agreement with Manchester City.

The 19-year-old midfielder has committed to a four-year contract with the Saints, becoming their second acquisition this summer after the recent addition of Ryan Manning.

The initial fee is £10.5m in a deal that could be worth up to £15m including add-ons.

City have also included a sell-on clause as well as bid matching and buyback rights for the player.

Charles has played eight times for Northern Ireland and he made his debut for Manchester City during the final game of the season against Brentford.

Charles revealed that Russell Martin had recently contacted him, reassuring him that the possession-based football approach would benefit him. His eagerness to get started with the team was evident.
