Manchester City have signed winger Jeremy Doku from Rennes in a £55.5m deal.
The Belgium international has signed a five-year deal with the Premier League champions.
Doku, who has attracted interest from several Premier League teams this summer, was deemed a suitable successor to Riyad Mahrez, following the latter's move to Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli for a fee of £30m. Earlier this month, West Ham's offer for Doku was turned down.
"Joining Manchester City is an extraordinary opportunity for me and my family, as they are undeniably the top team in global football," expressed Doku on the Man City website.
"As a young player eager to learn and grow, I believe that working with Pep and his team, and playing alongside these exceptional athletes, will undoubtedly enhance my skills. I am confident in that."
Doku profile: What will he bring to Man City?
Manchester City Adds Ex-Anderlecht Player as Third Major Summer Signing, Total Spending Reaches £163.1m.French football specialist Tom Williams stated to us that although it may appear to be a significant amount for a young player who is still in the early phases of his career, the player possesses all the necessary qualities one could desire from an offensive player.
Doku is incredibly fast and easily outplays his opponents. While his goal and assist statistics may not be as high as desired, it is anticipated that they will improve significantly under the guidance of a coach like Pep Guardiola. His potential seems almost boundless.
Manchester City's decision to invest a significant amount of money in him is comprehensible given his capabilities as a player.
He offers a unique attacking presence for Guardiola, being exceptionally fast and embodying the qualities of a traditional winger. He is versatile enough to perform on both the left and right sides, but he is expected to appear more frequently on the right for City.
As a player who favors his right foot, he does not tend to cut inside. Instead, his focus lies in outwitting full-backs along the flanks and delivering precise cut-backs from the byline. With his speed, directness, and exceptional dribbling skills, he brings a dimension of pace and creativity that is currently lacking in City's squad.
