J.J. Watt stood up for his son's fashion choices after receiving some negative comments on social media.
The 34-year-old athlete took to X (formerly Twitter) to reply to a fan who had something to say about the outfit he had dressed his 15-month-old son, Koa, in for a day out in London. Watt had shared pictures of Koa looking adorable in a little grey peacoat on Friday, March 29.
"Instead of dressing him like a baby model, why not choose clothes that are comfortable and fit him well," a commenter suggested via X. "We will still find him adorable no matter what he wears."
Watt promptly replied, "Thanks Dee, I value your parenting tips! Koa has different jackets, but he always picks this one every morning when he wants to go for a walk," he shared via X on Friday. "Do you want to know what's not comfortable? You assuming you know when my son is comfortable."
In October 2022, the ex-Arizona Cardinals player and his wife, Chicago Red Stars player Kealia Ohai Watt, became parents to Koa. Watt shared with We in February about the challenges and joys of fatherhood, reflecting on the lessons he has learned since welcoming his first child in 2020.
"It's a mix of good and bad when it comes to the amount of time and energy needed," Watt shared with Us. He mentioned how his brother, Derek Watt, who has two kids, would often decline invitations to join trips due to his parental responsibilities. Watt would suggest, "Hey, can you come on this trip with us?" to which Derek would reply, "I have two kids." Watt would then say, "Well, you can just leave for a weekend."
Reflecting on fatherhood, Watt described it as both exhausting and time-consuming, yet also the most fulfilling and wonderful experience. He realized that being a father made him appreciate the challenge of leaving the kids for a weekend more than he had previously understood.
"You have a human being to take care of," he said. "But on the flip side, the energy and life they bring is amazing. It's incredible to see their youthfulness and feel reinvigorated by their energy."
After playing 10 seasons with the Houston Texans and two with the Arizona Cardinals, Watt retired from the NFL in 2022. He mentioned that the birth of Koa played a significant role in his decision.
"I want to give my best as a father, and I understand that it requires a significant amount of time, energy, and dedication," the ex-defensive end shared with Us. "Playing football also demands a lot of time, energy, and commitment. I had a successful career that I am proud of and enjoyed, but now I am excited about and cherishing the role of being a dad."
