Flavor Flav's rendition of the national anthem at a recent Milwaukee Bucks game quickly became a viral sensation. The Bucks account expressed their enthusiasm by writing "YEAH BOY" via X on Sunday, October 29, and extended a shoutout to Flavor Flav for his flavorful anthem.
Flav, a 64-year-old, gave an enthusiastic performance before the Bucks faced off against the Atlanta Hawks, singing passionately for almost three minutes. On the court, he proudly wore a green Bucks jersey displaying the number 59, representing his birth year. The Grammy nominee, known by his real name William Jonathan Drayton Jr., showcased his iconic chain with a clock pendant, a stylish sideways white hat, and fashionable glasses.
Opinions about Flav's rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" were divided among viewers and social media users. While some harshly criticized the hip-hop legend, who played a significant role in the formation of the '80s group Public Enemy, others admired the effort he put into the performance.
User commentary on X praised Flav's heartfelt and well-rehearsed performance, expressing admiration and support. Another user drew a comparison to Fergie. Flav, undeterred by the mixed reception, expressed his pride in achieving a lifelong dream, despite the Milwaukee Bucks' loss to the Atlanta Hawks with a score of 127-110.

On Sunday, X wrote that performing the anthem was something he had always wanted to do, stating, "It was a long time bucket list item... that was fun! I cannot let the fear of what others may say hold me back from pursuing new endeavors and doing things that bring me joy. While some people may not approve, failure is guaranteed if we give up."
Flav is not the sole performer to have gained internet fame for their memorable performances of the anthem. In 2018, Fergie garnered attention for her unconventional rendition of the song at the NBA All-Star game. As she sang, players and celebrities in the audience laughed, but Fergie, who is now 48 years old, defended her approach.
"I have always felt privileged and proud to sing the national anthem and last night, I wanted to do something unique for the NBA. I am someone who takes artistic risks, but unfortunately, this rendition did not achieve the desired effect. I have a deep love for this country and genuinely gave it my best effort," she stated after the game.
Flav, Chuck D., DJ Lord, Sammy Sam, Professor Griff, and Terminator X were all members of Public Enemy throughout the years. Prior to his appearance at the Bucks game, Flav gained attention online in June when he proclaimed himself a fan of Taylor Swift, referring to her "RED (Taylor's Version) Era" in a photo caption after attending her Eras Tour in Detroit.
