The Big Picture
The box office debut of Five Nights at Freddy's was immensely successful, with experts projecting it to garner approximately $130 million worldwide over the weekend. This remarkable achievement establishes it as one of the most significant horror debuts in history.
The movie has already earned $52.8 million at the global box office.
Five Nights at Freddy's could beat the opening weekend hauls of recent hits such as John Wick: Chapter 4 and Fast X.
Five Nights at Freddy's has finally made its way to the big screen, much to the delight of fans who have been eagerly anticipating the adaptation for almost a decade. The wait has certainly paid off for Blumhouse and Universal Pictures, as the popular video game adaptation is expected to rake in around $130 million in its global box office debut, making it one of the most successful horror debuts in history. It is even projected to surpass recent hits like 2018's Halloween and this fall's The Nun II. Clearly, the lovable group of animatronics cannot be stopped.
On its first day of release, the film managed to bring in an impressive $39.5 million at the domestic box office, already surpassing the performance of another video game adaptation, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which premiered earlier this year. While this doesn't guarantee that Five Nights at Freddy's will continue to dominate ticket sales, especially considering its simultaneous release on Peacock, it does demonstrate that audiences are genuinely intrigued by the eerie story of a haunted pizzeria. Current estimates indicate that Emma Tammi's video game adaptation will earn approximately $78 million during its opening weekend at the domestic box office. With a Friday total of $13.3 million, the film's total earnings currently stand at $52.8 million.
Recent hits that had similar performance to Freddy's at the box office include John Wick: Chapter 4 and Fast X. John Wick: Chapter 4, the latest installment in Keanu Reeves' action-packed journey as the iconic lone hero, had an impressive opening of $73 million at the domestic box office earlier this year. Similarly, the thrilling continuation of the Toretto family's saga, Fast X, debuted with a bang, raking in $67 million.

In this highly anticipated adaptation of the popular video game, Josh Hutcherson takes on the role of Mike Schmidt, a young man responsible for the well-being of his sister, Abby (Piper Rubio). Due to his volatile behavior, Mike's career prospects are limited, so he jumps at the chance when offered a job as a security guard at a deserted pizzeria by Steve Raglan (Matthew Lillard). However, it doesn't take long for the protagonist to realize that something is deeply amiss at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Now, he must confront the hidden secrets of the dilapidated establishment in order to save Abby's life. Blumhouse's latest endeavor brings the beloved video game franchise created by Scott Cawthon to life, with hopes of establishing a new series.
