Five Nights at Freddy's is currently showing in UK theaters, with predictions on its box office performance in American cinemas this week. The highly-awaited film adaptation of the popular horror video game will be released gradually this week, appearing in theaters and on streaming platforms.
The film, directed by Emma Tammi and featuring Josh Hutcherson, Matthew Lillard, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Mary Stuart Masterson, released in the UK today, October 23, 2023. It will be available on the streaming service Peacock starting tomorrow, October 24, and will hit US screens on Friday, October 25. What is the projected box office earnings for the movie in the United States?
Five Nights at Freddy’s box office: How much has it made?
Trade publication Deadline reports that Five Nights at Freddy’s is projected to have a remarkable start, potentially surpassing $50 million. However, there are exhibitors who argue that this estimation underestimates the horror movie's potential, with some predicting an opening weekend box office of an astounding $85 million.
The production is estimated to have pre-sales of $11 million, representing a solid start considering the estimated cost of around $20 million. In addition, a series of previews will be held across the States starting at 2pm on Thursday (October 26), further contributing to the overall number.
However, caution should be exercised when considering these estimates. While the Blumhouse and Universal Pictures collaboration is scheduled to open on approximately 3,500 to 3,600 screens in the United States, the simultaneous streaming release may potentially impact the film's box office earnings. Regardless, the total revenue generated by FNaF should be sufficient to claim the top position at the domestic box office, surpassing Taylor Swift and her highly successful concert film, Eras Tour.
