New pre-release stills for Prime Video’s upcoming Fallout show feature Walton Goggins’ character, Ghoul. Amazon Studios revealed their plans to adapt the dystopian video game franchise for the small screen back in July 2020.
The production company didn't reveal much about the Fallout show initially, except for the fact that Westworld's Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan would be in charge of developing it. However, more details about the project have emerged since then, such as its setting in Vault 33 and its scheduled release date of 2024.
Fallout TV show reveals first look at live-action Ghoul
Some of the information was not from official sources, but that's not the situation with the Fallout stills recently revealed on Vanity Fair's website. The eight images all originate from Amazon Studios and give us our first look at Walton Goggins in the role of the show's protagonist, The Ghoul.
The Fallout show’s sneak peek pics reveal The Ghoul, showcasing his radiation-addled appearance and cowboy attire. Vanity Fair depicts the character as “a brutally scarred roughrider with a sense of honor, but also a ruthless side. He embodies the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly all in one. Additionally, he's a resilient survivor, having lived for centuries.”
Prime Video’s Fallout show will tell the franchise mascot’s origin story
The article also emphasizes that, although Ghouls are typically portrayed as expendable in the Fallout games, the protagonist of the show stands out for his intelligence and resourcefulness. It also cites Nolan discussing the exploration of the Ghoul's life as a family man named Cooper Howard before the apocalypse.
The Fallout show will explore more than just the franchise's history. According to Todd Howard, the executive producer and director of Fallout 3 and 4, the series will delve into the origin of the franchise's mascot, Vault Boy. Howard praised the show's team for creating a "really smart" backstory for the iconic symbol and suggested that fans should consider the show's Vault Boy origin story as part of official Fallout continuity. "We view what’s happening in the show as canon," Howard said. "That’s what’s great, when someone else looks at your work and then translates it in some fashion."
Fallout premieres on Prime Video on April 12. Find out more about the series here.
