FIFA, the governing body of global soccer, has imposed a three-year ban on Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Association (RFEF), prohibiting him from engaging in any football-related activities. This punishment comes as a result of Rubiales' unwarranted kiss on Jennifer Hermoso, the star player of Spain's Women's World Cup-winning team. The disciplinary action was taken because Rubiales' actions during the medal ceremony at the Women's World Cup final in August violated article 13 of FIFA's disciplinary code.
The statement read: "FIFA affirms its unwavering dedication to upholding the integrity and protection of all individuals, as well as ensuring the enforcement of fundamental principles of good behavior."
FIFA stated that the decision may be subject to potential appeal before the FIFA Appeal Committee.
The fallout from Rubiales' behavior caused a crisis in Spanish soccer, leading to condemnation in Spain and worldwide. After facing intense criticism for weeks, Rubiales stepped down as the president of the country's soccer association last month. Further information will be provided soon.
