One person has died and 12 individuals sustained injuries following a collision involving a Metro bus and a car in Seattle on Saturday afternoon, according to authorities.
The incident occurred at an intersection, causing the King County Metro Bus to veer off the road. Subsequently, it struck a woman and crashed into a building, details a news release from the Seattle Police Department.
Police stated that the woman was declared deceased at the location, without providing any information regarding her identity. According to the Seattle Fire Department, firefighters rescued and transported the 31-year-old male driver of the sedan to a hospital in critical condition.
Eleven occupants, including the driver, of the bus sustained minor injuries that are not life-threatening in nature as a result of the collision. According to authorities, all of them are currently in stable condition, with eight being transported to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.
Fortunately, the section of the building that the bus collided with was unoccupied, and there were no notable structural damages reported by Seattle Fire.
Seattle Police reported that the red sedan was traveling south on 5th Avenue when it collided with the eastbound Metro Bus on Battery Street. The police are currently investigating the cause of the crash and have mentioned that a Drug Recognition Expert officer will assess the male driver of the sedan for potential impairment.
