Fast X's opening weekend at the box office saw a slight slump towards the end. As the tenth installment in the long-standing franchise that started with the 2001 film The Fast and the Furious, it continues to follow the exploits of the beloved found family at the core of the series, including Dom (Vin Diesel), Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Roman (Tyrese Gibson), and Tej (Ludacris). This time around, they face off against a new antagonist named Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa), who is seeking revenge after his father, a drug kingpin, was killed during the events of 2011's Fast Five.
According to Deadline, although Fast X enjoyed a higher gross on its opening day than its predecessor, F9: The Fast Saga, it was unable to maintain that momentum and ultimately fell slightly behind, with a domestic gross of $67 million. This is $3 million less than F9's domestic opening of $70 million in 2021.
How Fast X's Box Office Compares to the Rest of the Franchise

Fast X had an opening weekend that falls right in the middle of the franchise. However, it still manages to maintain the new era's trend of grossing higher than the first three films, including the original, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and The Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Additionally, it exceeds the opening weekend gross of the Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw spinoff featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
Given its opening weekend performance, it is expected that Fast X's total domestic run will also land somewhere in the middle. While some films in the franchise that opened lower have seen a slight boost over time, such as Hobbs & Shaw which ended up as the fifth highest-grossing film in the franchise despite a seventh-place opening weekend, it is unlikely that Fast X will surpass F9's No. 6 ranking on the domestic chart.
Despite underperforming in the U.S., Fast X is still set to rake in $320 million at the global box office by the end of the weekend. This impressive figure will provide a much-needed boost for the franchise, paving the way for the upcoming Fast 11 sequel and potentially a twelfth and final installment. However, if these future films also experience a slow decline in box office numbers, it may hinder the franchise's ability to continue beyond that point, until it's time for a fresh reboot.
