Fans disgruntled as showrunner reveals Season 2 hiatus of Invincible

Invincible fans are left in anguish as the showrunner confirms a controversial midseason break for Season 2, leaving them eagerly awaiting the return of the highly anticipated series in a few months

Invincible Season 2 has reached a controversial midseason break, leaving fans eager for news about when the new episodes will air. Unfortunately, they will have to wait longer than anticipated. Last week, the show reached Episode 4, which we described in our review as "phenomenally violent, shocking, and infuriating" and warned that the worst is yet to come.

The events were already emotionally draining, but the agony continued as the widely criticized show went on hiatus, leaving viewers wondering when they can expect to see the rest of the season. The good news is that it will return to Prime Video in 2024, but unfortunately not as quickly as viewers would hope.

Invincible Season 2 returns in “a few months”

Simon Racioppa, the co-showrunner of the series alongside Robert Kirkman, addressed the gap between Season 2’s episodes in a new interview with The Hollywood Handle.

“The decision [to split the season] was made later on. As we began producing the show, we encountered some issues, discussed it with Amazon, and determined that presenting the show with these 4 episodes now, rather than making the audience wait even longer, was the best approach. We will return in a few months to give you the rest,” he explained.

Since Episode 4 ended, fans have been expressing their despair on social media. One X/Twitter user summed it up with just one word: "Pain." Another user expressed frustration with the news that Invincible Season 2 won't return until 2024. A third user questioned why there will only be 4 episodes of Invincible Season 2 before a long break and what the creators have been doing for the last 3 years.

According to Kirkman, he also discussed the midseason split with Collider, explaining, "I’ve seen people on the internet that are like, ‘Oh, why are you doing that? Why are you holding these four episodes back? I want the whole season.’ And that’s the wrong way to look at it. We’re giving you four episodes early."

"I try to maintain a positive outlook. It made practical sense since it was taking a long time to complete the show. We realized that the show's schedule was falling around the holiday season, potentially causing a loss of audience. With 'Walking Dead,' we always had a mid-season break which created another marketing push for the second half of the season and made the beginning of the mid-season an event. We decided to apply this strategy here, enabling us to release these four episodes earlier."

Editor's P/S

As a fan of the show, I am disappointed that there will be a midseason break for Season 2. I was really enjoying the show and was looking forward to seeing how the story would continue. I understand that there were some production issues that caused the delay, but I still think it's a shame that we have to wait so long for the rest of the season.

However, I am also excited to see what the showrunners have in store for us in the second half of the season. The first four episodes were incredibly violent and shocking, and I can't wait to see what else they have up their sleeves. I'm also curious to see how the characters will develop over the course of the season. I'm sure that there are some big surprises in store for us, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
