Jason Statham's Expanded Expendables 4 Role Explained
Sylvester Stallone has been the leader of the action hero team, known as Barney Ross, in all three previous movies. As for Statham's character, Lee Christmas, he has always been the second-in-command. However, everything is set to change in the upcoming movie, The Expendables 4. Stallone will make his final appearance as Ross, and it is expected that Statham will take over the leadership reigns.
Stallone is expected to have less screen time in the new installment of The Expendables compared to previous outings. He completed filming for the movie in a relatively short period, with Stallone himself stating that "Statham is 80 percent of it." The trailers for The Expendables 4 keep Stallone's role a mystery, but it appears that he is absent for a major cargo ship set piece.
Whether or not the new sequel will be successful remains to be seen. If it is, and another movie is made, Statham will likely take center stage once again. Although Stallone will be missed, The Expendables 4's cast includes a variety of returning stars and newcomers such as Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Megan Fox, 50 Cent, Tony Jaa, and Andy Garcia, among others, who can make up for his reduced screen time.
