Young Sheldon season 6 missed the opportunity to fully explore Pastor Rob and George Sr.'s rivalry. However, there is still potential for The Big Bang Theory spinoff to revisit this storyline. The season premiere of Young Sheldon introduced a conflict between the Cooper family and the local Church, resulting in Mary's excommunication due to Mandy's pregnancy. This conflict was further escalated by Meemaw's clashes with Pastor Jeff. However, as the season progressed, the feud was forgotten when Pastor Jeff gave Sheldon a significant amount of church money for his trip to Germany.
Additionally, Young Sheldon season 6 could have delved deeper into how Mary's life was impacted by her excommunication, thus offering a different perspective on her character from The Big Bang Theory. Although Mary and George Sr. faced significant marital issues throughout the season, they ultimately reconciled by the finale, returning to their usual dynamic. Mary's lack of purpose did not bring about significant changes to her character, and when she eventually embarked on the trip to Germany with Sheldon, she remained largely unchanged from her season 5 self.
Pastor Rob Could Make George Sr.’s Life Harder In Young Sheldon Season 7
In episode 9 of season 6 of Young Sheldon, titled "College Dropouts and the Medford Miracle," George Sr. becomes frustrated with his team's response to their recent winning streak. Despite George Sr. believing that his hard work is responsible for the team's success, credit is given to Pastor Rob by both the team and his assistant coach, Wayne Wilkins. Wayne's decision to invite the Pastor to pray with the team before each game deprives George Sr. of his deserved recognition. The conflict between George Sr. and Pastor Rob remains unresolved by the end of the episode. However, this issue is not addressed in later episodes of season 6.
Fortunately, in season 7 of Young Sheldon, there is an opportunity to explore and resolve the various unresolved storylines, including this one. This would provide a chance for Pastor Rob and Mary to reunite. Mary's relationship with Pastor Rob has already caused tension between her and George Sr. in season 6, but in season 7, it could escalate even further. If Pastor Rob continues to work with the struggling coach and receives credit for George Sr.'s victories, it could lead to a confrontation between George Sr. and the Pastor. This would force Mary to choose between Pastor Rob and George Sr., exposing her true feelings towards the reserved preacher.
Reviving George Sr.’s Pastor Rob Plot Helps Young Sheldon Season 7’s Mary Story
Mary reconnecting with Pastor Rob after her marital problems with George Sr. may complicate the storyline of Pastor Rob's return in Young Sheldon season 7. However, it would be more logical if Pastor Rob had a consistent presence in George Sr.'s professional life. If Wayne insisted on maintaining Pastor Rob's involvement, it could potentially jeopardize Mary and George Sr.'s ability to overlook their individual connections with Pastor Rob and Brenda. As the marriage between Young Sheldon's Mary and George Sr. is already on the verge of collapse, reintroducing this subplot in the seventh season of The Big Bang Theory spinoff would be appropriate.
