Charles Littlejohn, a former contractor for the Internal Revenue Service, has been charged by federal prosecutors for allegedly stealing the tax returns of a prominent government official. Sources have confirmed that the official in question is none other than former President Donald Trump. Court documents reveal that Littlejohn, aged 38, was employed by the IRS from 2018 to 2020, and during this period, he purportedly took "tax returns and return information" belonging to "Public Official A" and shared it with a news organization.
The tax returns in question were revealed to be Trump's, according to a source familiar with the investigation. Along with former president's tax documents, Littlejohn is alleged to have stolen IRS information on numerous affluent individuals, spanning over 15 years. Furthermore, Littlejohn transmitted this tax information to an undisclosed news organization.
According to court documents, the news organizations have published several articles detailing the tax information they obtained from the Defendant. No wrongdoing has been attributed to the news organizations.
Littlejohn is accused of disclosing tax returns and return information without authorization, and could potentially receive a prison sentence of up to five years if found guilty.
No comment was provided by Littlejohn's lawyer in response to the request.
